The current second Trump administration: a compendium of horrors

This is an opportunity for any decent president of either political stripe to defuse the situation and discourage copycats. Will Trump? Don’t hold your breath. We may get another “good people on both sides” diatribe. He’s sufficiently demented that he probably approves of this for helping “make Ameica great again” and probably correctly concluded that the perp is one of his supporters.

Thread on the Minnesota shootings:

I saw the thread, and I agree we need a dedicated thread for that. But as a “breaking news” thread, I didn’t think my Trump comment would be particularly well received there, so I put it here instead.

The demented Orange Blowhard simply cannot summon the discipline to stay on topic, even at a major international summit …

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney interrupted a question and answer session with Donald Trump at Monday’s G7 summit before the U.S. president got too much into the weeds discussing ICE raids on “blue cities,” according to CNN correspondent Kristen Holmes.

As Trump began to rehash his usual talking points, claiming former President Joe Biden allowed “murderers, killers, people from gangs, people from jails,” into the United States, the Canadian leader — and host of the meeting which is being held in Alberta — stepped in.

“If you don’t mind, just — I’m going to exercise my role, if you will, as G7 chair, since we have a few more minutes with the president and his team, and then we actually have to start the meeting to address some of these big issues,” Carney said.

Good for Carney. Trump needs to get shut down as often as possible.

Preferably with a rolled-up newspaper.

With a lead pipe on it.

Trump Mobile Phone Company Announced by President’s Family

The $47.45 includes ”mental health support.”

As they say, I can’t make this stuff up.

If anyone needs mental health support, it’d be anyone buying these phones.

Breaking news as I type this, Brad Lander, comptroller for NYC and Democratic mayoral candidate, arrested outside of an immigration hearing in Manhattan. Developing story, not many details yet. No one seems to know if he’s still in custody as of now.

A reporter with The Associated Press witnessed Lander’s arrest at a federal building in Manhattan. The person Lander was walking out of the courtroom was also arrested.

Lander had spent the morning observing immigration court hearings and told an AP reporter that he was there to “accompany” some immigrants out of the building.

‘Warrant? We ain’t got no warrant! We don’t need no warrant! I don’t have to show you any stinking warrant!’

From the aforementioned article:

This is the official statement from the White House communications director.

What article now?

Mark Cuban thinks the Trump phone could be all about crypto fees

“I think the smart game they are probably playing is to put a crypto wallet on the phone that leverages WLF, $Trump, and their stable coins,” Cuban posted in response to the product launch. WLF is a reference to crypto firm World Liberty Financial that’s connected with the Trumps.

“Whatever transactions they can create generates fees for them, and there are so many way to sell things and pre-load whatever they want,” he added.

Bring your own phone supposedly works now, but:

I tried signing up for Trump Mobile service

If Trump actually came up with that idea, it’s probably the smartest thing he’s ever contrived.

So basically the Trump phone will be just the ticket criminals need to conduct illegal activities. Right in lone with paying the mob boss his cut.

Yes, according to the article Lander specifically asked the agents to produce a warrant. I read elsewhere that he had also asked for the badge numbers of the agents.

There are a number of places which provide information on how people are supposed to respond when approached by ICE agents, either in public or at their home. Primary among these is to ask the agents to produce a warrant. I’ve often wondered whether ICE agents would actually do so. Now we know.

Quick update, he was released as of about an hour ago I think.

NPR reported about two hours ago that Lander had already been released and no charges were filed.

I’m wondering how much of the cuffing and brief detainments (like Senator Padilla’s last week) is for show? Is there going to be a next step — actually charging one of the Democratic politicians and see how far they can go?

From the NBC link in @Jihi’s post:

The Department of Homeland Security said Lander, a mayoral candidate, had been arrested for “assaulting law enforcement and impeding a federal officer.” In a brief statement on social media, DHS said: “It is wrong that politicians seeking higher office undermine law enforcement safety to get a viral moment. No one is above the law, and if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, you will face consequences.”

My bold.

Is it likewise wrong for DHS enforcement personnel to arrest people with a lot of fanfare and hoopla to get a viral moment, hmmm? Or is this yet another case of IOWRDI*?
