The Current Terror Alert Level is: Bert, or Maybe it's Rush's Moving Pictures album

Now, I know this topic is old, but it deserves to be made fun of. I was reading **Comments on Staff Reports **, when I saw Mormonism response - biased and inadequate, personally, I think it is neither, but hat is besides the point. One of the poster has a blog. http://thepeterfiles.blogspot.com

On it, he has a bunch of little jpegs which poke fun at things, kinda like bumper stickers. I think they are funny, but that is just me. Anyway, one of them shows a Terror Alert Level graph showing various Seasame Street Muppets, and the current one, Bert. Sure, it may be old and used up, but I was wondering what other parodies have people seen.

P.S. ANYthing? Bueller? Bueller? Oh, and there is a perfectly good Great Debate on this going on in On the Lack of Post-Election Terror Alerts

P.S. Blackwatch Plaid!

Thanks for noticing.

You are possibly the first person ever to visit to comment on this of 1,700+ visitors to my blog. I found it funny and somehow a non-threatening way of dealing with the whole thing. Also, my toddler likes seeing the characters on the blog. Oscar of course is Green, Elmo is Red, Etc. and as far as I can tell, the stand alone piece changes as the terror level changes. Though I have only had the blog up for less than two months and so have not had direct proof of that yet.

There are a lot of free geeky things that blog writers can add to their sidebars that can make them quite fun.

Those interested in the sidebar for themselves can get the code for it free from the source: http://www.geekandproud.net/terror/

Thanks for the kind words Scott_Plaid,

as a brand new blogger they are especially appreciated.

Peter

Scott, I’m not sure why this is in Cafe Society. And frankly, I’m not sure what the heck you’re talking about.

What topic is “old”? Are you asking people to give other examples of Terror Alert humor? I think that would belong in MPSIMS.

Why are you quoting the Mormonism thread, if you’re asking for humor on Terror Alerts?

If you’re poking fun at The Peter Files, it belongs in the Pit. And, frankly, since [p]Peter** is a fairly new member, it would seem to me to be counterproductive to make ambiguous comments like this. If you’re trying to provoke debate, it belongs in Great Debates. If you’re … Well, I dunno.

Consequently, I’m closing this. Email me if you’d like it re-opened with some sort of comprehensible initial post.

I don’t see that as making fun of The Peter Files; it doesn’t look like The Peter Files did either.

When I said old, I meant terror alerts, not his blog. It was not meant to call his blog old.
That is, the subject of terror alerts are old news. By posting to the link I got it from, I was explaining why I got the idea. I have seen other examples of Pop-culture parodying the concept of “Levels”, such as an episode of the late night show,** Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law.**

That, and the blog link, are two examples of pop culture references. I was hopping for others.

Well, it’s been an hour, and still no closing. However, I am still sending a letter asking for clarification. I examined The Peter Files’s recommended link, http://www.wackyneighbor.com/terror (It changed), and found some really funny stuff. It had another alert level parody, and an amusing blog.

btw, The title of this thread is **The Current Terror Alert Level is: Bert, or Maybe it’s Rush’s Moving Pictures album **. In that title, the words “Rush’s Moving Pictures album” refers to the same episode of Harvey Birdman that I refered to in my last post. The episode’s name was Blackwatch Plaid, which is a type of tartan. Now, normally kind of check are not normal colors to be used in handy, easy to read charts, but then again, neither are album covers, such as the Cover of Rush’s seminal album, Moving Pictures, which was the really high level on the alert chart.

A clip from it be found on Rush References In Pop Culture I am amazed by the length of the list. Incidentally, the above link does not go straight to the video, in case C K Dexter Haven was wondering.

Oh, and while this is a bump, to let people know it is not locked, here are some more references. I was hoping to find some references in short stories, comedians acts, or flash cartoon, but most of what I have found are visual humor, or newspaper parodies. Below are a few. Has anyone found any others?

Ridge raises terror alert to red, issues Pacman warning

Iraq’s New Terror Alert System

Oh, and the the Geek Terror Alert Scale goes from (in levels of intensity) from Dobby, to Dalek, Vader, Borg, and finally, Cthulu.

Vader? I mean, I get the Daleks, but Anakin? He is too cute. Well, as long as I am stretching, here is a paid political advertisement paid for by “Cobra Commander For President 04

IMHO, this thread belongs in MPSIMS, as you’ve described it.

The main subject is little pokes at the Terror Alert status on blogs and webpages. It may incidentally refer to icons from popular culture, but it’s not really about Arts and Culture, which is what the Cafe is for.

Threads about jokey webpages (or non-vitriolic jokes about government policies) typically fit into MPSIMS.

It’s not like we’re going to talk about Sesame Street or Rush, specifically, right?

By the way, my favourite Threat Level is Oompah Loompah.

It was locked earlier. Briefly, I guess.

Yeah, I suppose you are right. While intellectually I knew that this was more a general humor thread, about five minutes after I posted, before posting I visited MPSIMS and found it to be a treasure trove of stores, which, while interesting, were mostly about personal matters. Oh, and my favorite on-topic Willy Wonka reference is the blue one on this chart: http://www.wackyneighbor.com/terror/ .

I suppose what I should do is to ask, "Oh, mighty Mods, can I ask you to change his to another forum. (I hope not the pit, personally.)

Oh, and thanks for the info, Marley23. It must have happened while I was typing post 5.

My apologies for earlier misunderstandings. Someone had hit the “REPORT THIS POST” button on the grounds that it was insulting to The Peter Files. I’ve told y’all that I have very, very limited time for the Boards. I read the opening post quickly, and I had no idea what the heck it was about. I could easily read it as insulting to Peter, or as a request for joke websites, or as I dunno what… considering that it starts with a link to Mormonism in CoSR and winds up with a link to Great Debates, I didn’t know what it was supposed to be. Thus, I closed it awaiting clarification. I’m not sure when or how it got reopened, but I’m now moving it to MPSIMS.

Thank you, C K Dexter Haven. Now, He is very busy, and while I understood my OP, I can see how it can look confussing to someone with not enought time on his hands to responde to every little post.

That being said, here is a semi-bump before the week end. Now, it will soon be overwhelmbed by the fact I will soon bump another thread of mine in Mundane Pointless Stuff, which could not be more diffrent from this one, but I feel I gotta bump.

Might as well bump. Bump!
Might as well bump.
Go ahead, bump. Bump!
Go ahead, bump.
(with apologies to the band Van Halen)

threat level poetry.

Hi,

For the record, I understood instantly that Scott_Plaid was making fun of the Terror Alert color scheme system and not my finely crafted and very funny blog which now has links to a bunch of JibJab animations including their latest, the Matzah! rap Passover video.

But thank you for watching out for my back, I appreciate it.

Peter

My earlier post seems in which I gave props to Biffy for his Member name which I found to be inspired despite my admiration For SMG and MT, and his clarity of thought on my response, seems to have vanished into never, never land so I have repeated it here.

If it returns, pardon the repetative redunduncedancy. (Sic or Sick if you prefer)

In keeping with my original theme of making the terrorist alert system a little less stress inducing and yet at least as incomprehensible, or even less so, than the original, I have placed my new Smiley Terror Alert System in my Signature for use until I am no longer afraid that W is in the White House.

Or until the NSA cuts off my access to this board. If my posts suddenly stop appearing, you’'l know why, no matter WHAT anybody says.

THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE!

Please feel free to comment on this new alert system. Also feel freed to add it to your own signatures, quote and all if you like.
