Do any of our politically astute dopers read The Daily Beast? I looked at because it was mentioned this morning on Face The Nation. (I think that was where I heard about it, but I’m having a bad day today.) It looks like an interesting site but I just don’t know enough to judge its reliability. Anyway, here is the link:
I’ve heard numerous references to it on The Daily Show. I believe it was founded by Tina Brown. I haven’t spent any time there. It got some big press when William Buckley’s son wrote a story there that ended up with him resigning from The National Review, but I can’t remember details. I think maybe he endorsed Obama, or some similar traiterous act.
Well, this thing went off the horizon with zero replies, so I forgot about it. I’m a little baffled as to why it ended up in Cafe Society, but I’m baffled by many things. Anyway, thanks for the inputs even though the thanks are overdue.
It’s been getting press recently because of some of the stuff Megan McCain has been writing.
The Daily Beast will probably become a central voice for moderate conservatism in the near future. Right now Megan McCain is probably the only Republican suggesting a way to get new voters. Once Republicans realize that they can only rely on old people for so long (this might take some time), they will probably use The Daily Best to get their message out.
I don’t know if this is totally true. They host many blogs/columns from quite liberal writers as well. I have seen many columns from fairly recognizable names in a wide variety of fields. I am a daily Daily Beast reader and find it to be pretty good; the original content from people like Christopher Buckley, Meghan McCain, and Reza Aslan is very good. The Cheat Sheet is a pretty good source of news.
I’m just speculating. All the moderate republicans* seem to be hanging out over there, so it’s my guess that it might amount to something during the 2012 election.
*Are there more moderate republicans than just Chris Buckley and Megan McCain?
