The day can only get better if I die. (ladyfoxfyre tells the world to fuck off))

ladyfoxfyre, I know the way your day could get better!

A bitter older guy who seems to automatically rank himself above teenagers could flame you for expressing your frustrations!

I know that’s what my day needs! (And I bet I’ll get it ;))

But wait, maybe that was just me being egotistical and stupid.

Wow, LaurAnge, I think you’re right! I can almost feel the stress melting away…

Now what in the world have I said that indicates I am bitter?

racinchikki: Yes, you could say that, but most people eventually mostly outgrow it. And worse, they become ever more cognizant of whatever stupidity and egotism they retain.

Teenagers are nearly universally (in our culture) stupid and egotistical. And they are almost entirely oblivious to the fact.

I do not have a problem with ladyfoxfyre being a stupid egotistical teenager. It is necessary for development into functional adulthood.

However, she posted a tale of particular stupidity and egotism from which she concluded that all people suck. I felt that the broadness of the conclusion needed rebuttal. Further, the stupidity (which she acknowledged in a follow-up post) is not described as something she in which she is participating but as something that strangely keeps going on around her, perpetrated by her friends (who are, apparently, “dumbasses”; a synonym, perhaps, for “stupid and egotistical teenagers”).

I just wanted to point out that the evidence of her tale only demonstrated a small group of sucky people and to make sure she was aware that she appears to be part of that group.

Strangely, her day is described as a bad one and everyone comisserated. When I was 17, a day of excessive speed, getting kicked out of places, staying out late, goofing off with friends, and only one argument with Mom was considered a damn good day.

I know this is the Pit, but, cite?

And I bet you had to walk uphill to school both ways, too.

I see, so I am the one jumping to conclusions here. Obviously, because of my story, all my friends must suck and are dumbasses, and that’s a bad thing. But it is okay for you to say that all teenagers are egotistical and stupid, and that I am one of them. And because you are “not” stupid or egotistical, you can say this with such certainty.
Amazing. Simply amazing.

OK, Obfusciatrist, now that you have personally insulted me, I’ll attempt to remain civil and ask you for evidence that I’m egotistical and stupid.

How old are you? QED.

Well, I could attempt to demonstrate that you’re an intransigent sonovabitch by any number of methods similarly based on prejudice and bigotry, but I’m given to understand that civilized, mature people usually don’t do that sort of thing, Obfusciatrist. I’m sorry to say you’ve lost a great deal of respect in my eyes.

Matt,

A) I am surprised to learn I ever had your respect and am indifferent to its loss. (This is not a personal statement towards you, Matt, I am always surprised to learn I have anybody’s respect and am always indifferent to its loss.)

B) I am and intransigent sonofabitch.

C) Being civilized and mature does not exclude being stupid and egotistical.

D) No reason for you to be insulted. Teenagers shouldn’t be insulted by what I’ve said any more than a dog should be insulted if I say it has lots of hair. It’s just the nature of the beast.

E) Let me repeat this, it is not a bad thing for teenagers to be stupid and egotistical. They are the tools by which we grow up.

Ladyfoxfyre:

A) I did not say your friends suck and are dumbasses; you did.

B) I did not say that them sucking and being dumbasses is a bad thing.

C) You took the behavior of your friends and equated it to all people suck. You narrowed the scope of that statment later but it is the statement to which I first responded.

D) You, through tone and judgment, excluded yourself from sucking and being a dumbass even though you participated in every activity you used to describe sucking and being a dumbass.

E) I never said that I am not stupid and egotistical. In fact, in my second post to this thread I openly acknowledged my continuing capacity for such. I simply am more cognizant of it than you.

F) Let me repeat this, it is not a bad thing for teenagers to be stupid and egotistical. They are the tools by which we grow up.

LaurAnge:

A) As a matter of fact, I did walk up hill both ways going to school. I also walked downhill both ways. There was a big hill between my home and my school. In fact, if there had been snow, I would have walked through that, uphill both ways as well; except I lived in a region where 1/4" of snow is a sure sign of the apocolypse and school would be cancelled.

B) I state this with certainty because I can state with certainty that you (and all other teenagers) do no know as much as you think you do and you are not nearly as important to the universe as you think you are.

C) Cite? Wait ten years and then think about yourself at 16. If you don’t agree with me at that time, then we’ll argue about it.

D) Let me repeat this, it is not a bad thing for teenagers to be stupid and egotistical. They are the tools by which we grow up.
