The dead contacting the living

the Bible says that the dead cannot contact the living, so who is talking to people on Ouija boards or at seances? Demons impersonating lost loved ones maybe?

Um, no one.

Yet, the Bible describes at least one instance of it happening - in 1 Samuel 28:

The Perfect Master has a take on the on Ouija board.

I think sometimes the Bible says things that aren’t true for our own good. Like, it may not be good to bring back the dead like in that story, like it might be dangerous or you might get an evil spirit that will trick you into thinking its someone you loved and make you do something stupid. SOmething like that happened to my aunt Diana. So the Bible says that you can’t do that so people wont try, but if it needs to be done it can be done.

Something stupid like giving money to a medium.

The bible says a lot of things, this is one of the very few it gets right.

Where to begin…?

The dead are dead. Not only can they not contact anyone, they also have a hard time making restaurant reservations.

Seriously, when you die you become a bag of fertilizer: nothing more, nothing less.

You’re a living animal, like a squirrel or toad. When you die, you die. End of story. Get over it.

What happened was she went to a fortune teller and what she thought was her dead husbands spirit came back and told her to go have sex with a bunch of different guys until she got pregnant and then he would come back as the baby, but she never got pregnant but she did get AIDs.

Was one of the guys the fortune teller?

The fortune teller was a woman.

I read the thread title as “The dead contracting the living” and was wondering what they’d hired them for.

Lawn maintenance, I’ll bet.

“I don’t get it. Why does the Ouija board keep saying 'Braiiiins” ? "

That’s even sexier then.

One of the only Scripture passages in the Bible that indicates the dead CAN’T contact the living is in Jesus’ parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man. When the rich man asks Abraham to send Lazarus’ spirit to Earth to warn his brothers to lead better lives, Abraham says there is an uncrossable chasm between the living and the dead, which means Lazarus can’t speak to the rich man’s brothers.

Quite apart from the issue of whether the dead CAN communicate with the living, Mosaic law commanded the living not to try to communicate with the dead. Check out Deuteronomy 18:10-11:

"There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. "

Mangetout’s passage shows what happened when someone disobeyed that rule.

You should have stopped at the word “true”.

Two girls, on Ouija board. I saw it on the intranets.

Wait, so Jesus couldn’t come back and talk to the apostles?
