No, you don’t. I can cite Albert Einstein as being an authority on physics without it being a fallacy. I cannot cite Albert Einstein as being an authority on the rules of baseball without it being a fallacy.
Do you understand the difference now?

Not judging by your argument. Citing an authority in economics regarding a question of economics is not “Appeal to Authority”.
Biden: Tea Party Members have acted like terrorists
Uh oh.
I knew there was a reason I liked him. Even if that is impolitic as hell.
Yeah, that’s really great. When you have a political disagreement with someone, it is good discourse to call them terrorists. It’s one thing when our resident liberals at the SDMB do it. This is the Vice President of the United States.
If the TP members are acting like terrorists, Joe, then tell your boss to go get some arrest warrants. Surely, that is illegal to act like a terrorist, no?
A new low for political discourse.
Sorry, I don’t know what else to call it when a political group holds the livelihood of the nation hostage for their own personal desires.
This isn’t a case of name-calling. They’re walking and talking like fucking ducks.
Before you all jump on the “big bad conservative”, perhaps you should learn what an appeal to authority entails. It’s not just appealing to someone outside his field of expertise; it’s also entails appealing to someone who offers up a statement which is-- or would be-- contested within that field, or even appealing to someone who is an expert in that field but offers no support evidence of his or her claims.
(And fwiw, the writer of that article contradicts himself.)
You keep forgetting that George Bush is no longer President.
The Tea Party threatened to destroy the world economy unless they got their way.
How is that different from any number of Cobra Commander’s plots?
Enlighten us.
So this board believes that the Democratic party are the adults and the Republican party the children, yet simultaneously think namecalling is indicative of how an adult acts? I don’t get it.
Anyway, the Republican Party-- or maybe the Tea Party-- should play the BAN card.
I’ve been watching the House on C-SPAN on and off this morning.
Jeebus, I never realised that the beaurecracy was soooo freeeekin’ slooooooooooow.
I thought you guys were tired of all that PC crap and preferred to call 'em like ya see 'em.
I read that POLITICO article and didn’t see a citation for the Biden quote. Only some muck-raking citing unnamed sources. Can somebody point me to the named source?
Just who are you quoting here?
Yes, it is.
Only in your mind.
Faux News is claiming it came from a “closed door meeting” of House Democrats, for whatever that is worth.
SOmeone explain to me how it isn’t extortion.

Jesse Jackson Jr., Barney Frank, and Maxine Waters are firm no, leaning no, and leaning no respectively. If they hold the livelihood of the nation hostage for their own personal desires and vote no, are they terrorists?
That depends on whether you think not giving in to terrorists makes one as culpable as the terrorists themselves.
Nope. They are not voting against a clean debt ceiling increase, nor are they filibustering the same.
