The deep dark secrets we hide

I just found out that a man with whom I worked for about five years has had a sex change operation. This guy was as normal a person as I have ever known. There was absolutely nothing about him that would have clued me that something pretty darn major was going on in his mind all that time.

From what I can tell he must have been in his early 60’s when he had the operation. It cost him his marriage and his relationships with two of his four children.

I am absolutely stunned. Not so much that he had the operation but that he was able to hide that part of his life so completely.

Why do you think some serial killers are so successful ( if that’s a word you can use in the same sentance as “serial killers”)? Everybody they interview afterward says “I can’t believe it. He seemed like such a normal guy.” Some people are just good at keeping things to themselves.

Darn, I was hoping that this was a thread where we could divulge a deep dark secret. Oh well, nevermind. Carry on.

I have my share of Dark Secrets, which will probably only come out on chat in the presence of a few good friends on here

I see dead people.

I seed red people.

So the guy is now a girl yes?

Perhaps he kept it to himself in case he was refused the op, then he’d not only have to deal with the weight of refusal, the fact that he’d be a bloke for the rest of his life but also that’d he’d told everyone about it.

Perhaps he was hoping to turn up one day and surprise everyone (depending on: did he tell everyone or was is a rumor he acknowledged).

Perhaps there is someone special in the workplace who wouldn’t be interested in him, but more interested in her .
