Not that anyone remembers, but I used to be Captain Battery Acid.
My original username was rmariamp. I put in for the change late in the evening of Sept. 10, 2001. I don’t think many people really noticed the transition for some odd reason.

Here are a couple of older threads for harvesting. (Some people still have the title “charter member” even though the lack of number of posts and location on their posts shows they’re actually guests now. The titles must have been entered manually. Alas for “The Asbestos Mango”/agisofia. )
Me too, I think when the board went to subscription. Didn’t carry over the posts.
MizGrand was RSSChen
Not that any of you would have noticed, given my post count, but I used to be iceman866.
Part of me wants to change my name again. I’d have to give it some serious thought…
Boobswater Fartwerth McWeeb
xabc_Keitaro/Autolycus
I only had about 13 posts under my first handle though.
Always been Tristan.
I think, if I remember how that whole mess went…
RubySunbeam\Welfy, who sadly no longer posts here.
BigBabySweets2000/bbs2k a dude, I’ve heard.
I used to be silver1. My relatively new nick is a much more accurate descriptor.
Why do people choose to change screen names? I know one person (already mentioned) who changed because of her involvement in a controversial thread in which she caught a lot of heat, but I assume pragmatic necessities like that are rare. Lib changed, I believe, for philosophical reasons – also rare, right?
So what is it? Isn’t it kind of a hassle to be suddenly anonymous again? Or is that the allure?
My reason is this: When I was new to message boards but not new to signing up to things I chose my last name as my first name… What!?
I’ll start again…
When I was new to message boards but not new to signing up to things I chose my last name as my user name. This was normal practice for login names at the time.
A few months or years went by (can’t remember if it was months or years) and I had discovered discworld. I really liked the character Lobsang Ludd and I didn’t like ‘lobley’ so I requested a change.
Also it served a secondary purpose, I was a bit of a dick at the time so the name change offered a chance at a fresh start.
4 years on and I’m still a dick.
long time ago, I was jti00. Changed it because it was too drab.
I changed it because people assumed I was male. I am very not.
Telperien used to be Harimad-sol.
who was Jinxie who was Brother Rat.
With the exception of Jinxie I probably had a couple of thousand posts in each.
For some reason I can only remember people who lost their numbers.
Eutychus was Eutychus55
Twickster was Twickter35
34? Sorry Twicks multiple’s of 11 are much easier to remember.
47, actually – you should have realized it was a prime…
Didn’t** Improv Geek** used to be something that I always mangled anyway? (Ronincyberpunk?)
I used to be CURIOUS_GEORGIE7. As you can see, it’s quite clumsy. The underscore, all caps and the meaningless “7” really started to tick me off. I wanted the name Curious George but apparently someone, somewhere had already chosen it. I’ve never seen anyone post with that name so it must’ve been a lurker.
Another problem with the name is that everyone thought I was a man. They still do but I like this handle much better.
ETA. Yes, **Improv Geek ** used to be Ronincyberpunk.
