I have about 250 “friends”. And if I could be bothered to dig down and see which ones I personally have met and ones that are only online acquaintances, I imagine it would be something like 40-50 of those friends are online only. I know a lot of other wheelchair users and bodybuilders from FB that live too far away to ever meet in person.
658 Total
Based on what Facebook says about me:
66 from work
20 from high school + 59 from my hometown (overlap?)
56 from my current city location
Not listed - but a ton from undergrad, and a couple of handfuls from grad school as well.
I also have 51 followers.
Vast majority I have met - only a few randoms as unmet Facebook friends.
I have 540. I’ve met all in person but about 10 (maybe fewer). Those 10 include all have a huge overlap of about 20-40 people that I know where it is mostly a matter of chance that I’ve haven’t actually met them in person. What can I say, the horse world is a small one! The rest are schoolmates of some variety, horse friends, past co-workers and a few neighbors. I have one FB friend that I went to HS with and we both ride horses in the same area of the country, we have 130 mutual FB friends.
Countries represented include: The US, Canada, Liberia, Ghana, Japan, Hong Kong (yeah, yeah China), Korea, England, Chile, Italy, Venezuela, Ecuador and perhaps a few others. Ethnicity is heavily skewed white, but definitely contains more than a token few of other races. And if we exclude my family, I can honestly say that my list skews to the highly educated and politically left. My family are the main sources of ‘fake news’, poorly spelled memes of questionable wit and are wholly unfamiliar with snopes.com.
I’m not too far off. 26 for me. A plurality of mine are family and close friends, people I routinely make an effort to spend time with with in real life. Then there are a few old friends I don’t live near anymore but I’d make plans to meet if I were in their city. Then there are a couple casual fiends I’d stop and chat with if I ran into them at the mall. Then there are three or four family members I keep on just so I don’t have to explain why I dropped them.
All of mine are in the US, most in the Midwest, a few on the coasts.
LinkedIn is where I keep all my professional acquaintances. It’s sort of my rolodex. I think I’m up to 375 or so. I only drop in there once in a while.
