The Dick van Dyke show

Short answer to the actual question: I have no idea if there was any such thing as Peanut Butter Avocado Dip; however, I will be happy to look for one (and yes, I agree, I think it sounds repulsive).

But are you sure that mustard was the missing ingredient? I don’t remember much about that show, but I have a very clear memory of much of that particular episode. Jerry and Millie were alone, taste-testing the avocado dip, and musing about how it didn’t seem to live up to Laura’s. Buddy came in (first guest to arrive), and they asked him to sample Millie’s version of Laura’s dip, and see if he could tell what was missing. He tasted it, and immediately responded, “Peanut Butter.”

I know, it’s a small matter, in the grand scheme of things. I just need to know I’m not a victim of False Memory Syndrome.

Nope, it was mustard that was missing. Buddy said something like “Good. But why did you leave out the mustard?”
(I’ve wasted large chunks of my life, can you tell?)

I, too, think Rob and Laura would have listened to the kinds of music they performed. But they were hip enough to be open to other types of music, like folk or rock or Motown. In fact, Rob’s younger brother, Stacy, probably introduced them to some folk stuff.

And the missing ingredient was definitely mustard. I remember thinking “Peanut butter, avocado and mustard? Blech!”

I was singing the Dead Milkmen classic, “I tripped over the ottoman” the other day and discovered to my horrific dismay that my wife of 8 years who I thought I knew so well not only doesn’t love Dick Van Dyke, but has never even seen it. Oh the humanity.

Just the fact that sometimes he tripped and sometimes did that dance step to his left and didn’t trip was clever original. (Although, why were Buddy and Sally at the house at that time anyway?)

I stole that from a TVLAND commercial)

And how about the show where they are convinced that Richie was switched at birth. And who walks in at the end, but a black couple. And when DVD asks him why he didn’t tell him on the phone that they were black he says “what and miss the look on your face?”

WAY, WAY ahead of its time.
