I weighed in today at 208.2. I haven’t been bouncing up nearly as high (to 211-212 range) and I suspect my weight has gone down a smidge more than is shown on the scale this particular morning. I’ve certainly been eating better, though my workouts have been less frequent, so I’m sticking to it.
Bad news for me. The podiatrist says the pain in my foot is a repetetive stress injury. NO treadmill for me for a couple of weeks.
I’m up to 2 sets of 9 push-ups and 70 crunches.
Still haven’t missed more than 1 day in a row - doubt I’ve missed more than 2 days in a week.
Timed it the other day - 2:38.
Figure even when I get up to 10 push-ups (next week or the next), I’ll still keep that as my “committment”, tho I’ll allow/encourage myself to do more on the odd day that I feel like it.
Weight is still up about 6#, but I’m sure it will come down. Blew off running over lunch today, but ran 5 yesterday and the day before. Have to make sure I run tomorrow.
I kinda figured that 208.2 was a bounce. I weighed in today at 206.4 (down 3.6 pounds so far!).
Actually, this morning I weight at 205.4. Weird, huh?
I started working out again only about 2 weeks ago… at least every other day and often with a light workout on the days between. After a week of curls with a 20 lb weight, lifting the weight behind my back from the middle of my back up to where my arms are almost straight up then back down, sit ups, and push ups… I did something stupid… I started doing sit ups with the 20lb weight and got pretty far… some 50 something sit ups with only a couple little breaks. Overextended myself. Now I can only do 10 sit ups or so before taking a short break. So… looking to set up a more gradual plan while I just do my keeping up exercising.
Well I’m sad to say that my new year didn’t start well - I’ve just recovered from a nervous breakdown. Not good news or fun by any stretch of the imagination, but on the plus side I’ve been eating well (in hospital) so I’ve gained a bit of weight which was good as I was a bit rakey.
Guys, please please PLEASE take time off work or move jobs if stress is starting to get to you - don’t end up in hospital like me.
Well, my weight went down 3 or 4 pounds, then bounced back up. I’m not getting bigger or really heavier.
Hmph.
I almost had one last year from work stress. Heart palpitations, insomnia, the works. Ended up with an ear infeecction that the doctor said needed a full week in bed doing nothing or else…But work was important, so I ignored him. Now I have tininitus in both ears. Joy.
Hanging at 85 kilos with diet and swimming twicce a week. But I think I’m making trade-offs on fat vs. muscle. Everyone has been saying I look fitter.

I did it! I made it to the gym!
Alright, so it’s minor compared to what you guys have accomplished, but it’s the first time I’ve ever been to one, so at least I’m now on the train
Still doing my push-ups and crunches. Maxxed out at 2 sets of 10 push-ups and 7- crunches, tho a couple of times a week I’ll crank out a few extra. Haven’t missed more than 1 day in a row.
Ran more miles in Jan than any month in 06 - of course last year I was hobbled by 10/05 knee surgery and 3 busted toes in 3/06.
Still up 6# or so - still eating like a pig. Piling on a layer of blubber to keep warm!
Son of a bitch!
I have at cost of great irritation, gone down to drinking only one soda per day. And then I realized that gatorade had lots of calories, so I stopped drinking gatorade after exercising.
Now I looked at the nutrition info on the little mini apple juice bottles I’ve been drinking, and one 10 oz bottle of apple juice has more calories than a 12 oz Coke.
wtf?
I hope it’s not too late to post an update.
Well, I’ve been going to the gym now every day for about 3 weeks. I don’t know if I’m losing weight, per se, but I certainly stopped gaining weight, which is a change. Now I just need to work on my damn diet. Argh.
Still doing my sit-ups and push-ups. Haven’t missed more than 1 day in a row yet. (Last Friday I was driving to a poker game, and realized I hadn’t done them the day before. So - to my credit - when I got home at 1:30 a.m., I dropped and did them!)
Have been trying to run a bit more regularly and eat a tad less. Weight seems to be dropping slightly - tho still about 5-7 pounds higher than I’d consider optimal.
Never too late to get in shape.
I’m still doing my normal routine. Weight holding steady (about 176 in the morning), still eating right. Looking forward to DST since I’ll be able to ride my bike after work now. Still going for 1 or 2 long (15 miles or so) rides each weekend. Just started seeing a sports therapist for strained muscles in my hip which has kept me from running for several months (strain happened when I moved a box, not from running). I’m still working out on a casual basis at home - supersets of pushups, crunches and bar dips, 50/60/30, cycle through it 5 times.
MaxTheVool, fruit juice can have tons of calories because it’s basically a big shot of sugar. I don’t know the exact breakdown of calories in an apple, but some big percentage of them are sugars. I also don’t know how many apples they have to squeeze to fill that can but it’s probably “several” (I assume it’s made of concentrate, it’s not like the fruit is juiced right into the can), so you’re getting the sugar from many apples with none of the fiber, water and general bulk. I noticed when I started doing WW that they recommend avoiding fruit juice and dried fruit and instead eating fresh fruit. One apple fills you up the way that several cups of apple juice (or tons of dried fruit) do. Now if I have a sip of OJ or something it tastes way too sweet. So try that - water for hydration and then have a banana or something after your workout.
Yeah. My thinking is pretty much everything - good and bad - in moderation. Trying to eat well meant fruit and veggies when possible, and since fruit juice is made of fruit …
My wife knows more about nutrition, and I was surprised when she told me that I’d be better off drinking a diet soda and popping a multi-vitamin, than drinking fruit juice. So commonsense doesn’t always do the trick.
It’s not so much that fruit juice is bad for you, it’s just that it’s easy to glug an awful lot of it and it’s got a lot of sugary calories per glug. Same thing with dried fruits - you’re taking out so much of the generic water and fiber bulk (which helps you feel full) and just getting the really high-caloric-density contents that you can overeat (calorie-wise) without feeling stuffed.
Well I’m now out of hospital following my breakdown so I can start going to the gym again - yay! Whilst I was ill I put on the best part of a stone from eating heavy meals and sitting around and I seem now to have a bit of a gut coming on. Not happy with that but clear I know how to get around it and get back on track.
You should be drinking something with calories (and preferably a bit of protein) after you work out - it will help you recover. I always drink two servings of Accelerade (it’s like Gatorade in flavor but has a bit more nutritional value) after a long run - it has a lot of calories and a lot of protein. The rest of the day, I drink plain water. I definitely feel better if I drink Accelerade rather than water after a run. You just want to avoid all the calories when you are just lying around on your couch!
Good on you. A lot of times I find that my first couple of minutes of exercise, whatever it may be, feel like “This sucks, I think I’ll stop and read a book” but when I push through it there’s a “runner’s high” and it starts to feel really good, both physically and mentally. Good for the mind & spirit on a couple of levels.
