The Dresden Files is cancelled

Let’s see:
The Tick
Drive
Firefly
Family Guy
Futurama
Eerie, Indiana
Andy Richter Controls the Universe
Undeclared

Those are just the ones that have caused the biggest commotion on the boards that I can recall (I haven’t seen all of them, so I can’t comment on the quality), and I’m certain that I’ve missed more than a few of them.

Fox cancelled The Tick?

I’ll never forgive them for that.

Yup. As with Firefly they aired the episodes out of order, jumped them around so you never knew when they were going to be on, and in the words of Patrick Warburton, “Deliberately killed the show.”

If anyone’s interested, the show is out on DVD now. I’m getting them off Netflix. It’ll be interesting to see what order the shows are in, as opposed to how Scifi fucked it up.

Moderator interjects: just to clarify a common misconception, there’s no reason you can’t say things here that you would say in the Pit. The only exception is that in this forum, you can’t say insulting things about other posters. You can say whatever you want about the Fox executives.

Yes, we want this forum to be polite and well-mannered, but that means towards each other. We don’t give a shit what you say about the artists, producers, entertainers, etc.

OK?

Well, in that case…

Nah, I can’t be bothered to express my opinion about the ancestry, personal habits, or intelligence of network executives who cancel perfectly good shows while continuing to air utter crap. I just try to watch the good stuff when I find it, and try not to let my mellow be harshed by the things I don’t have any control over.

I will be getting the DVD set, however. I heard it’s going to include some version of the original pilot in addition to the truncated version that was aired.

Don’t forget Dark Angel.

But, although it is not required, it has been requested by many members to keep profanity out of the thread title. And Dex did say “We do find random profanity irritating”. However, calling those bastards down at Fox “bastards” or even “fucking bastards” isn’t random. It is directed and deserved.

And Arrested Development.

Well, I’m not surprised.

They took the concept of the books, then changed everything. Changed characters, backstory, plot devices, storylines, character situations, and even the building he lived in.

Why didn’t they just write something new?

I love the books with a passion. I enjoy them all. I had to look at the TV show as a separate-alternate reality to the books because of all the changes.

Giving Murphy a daughter, for goshsakes…

I’d be more upset if the TV show were more like the novels.

Meh. The show had potential and the occasional episode had some real comic spark, but I never really found it more than mildly diverting. The one good thing about it was that it introduced me to a great new fantasy book series I’d never have tried, otherwise.

Right now I couldn’t care less about the show, I’m just counting down the days until Book 10.

I disagree with not caring about the show, but agree with everything else. The show had great potential, and I liked all the characters, hadn’t read the books but have 'em on my list now. But…

It could have been good, but can’t completely blame them for canceling it. It wasn’t that good.

Then again, I can blame them for not giving it a shot. They did fuck around with it, making them re-film things and show them out of order.

Fuckers! I don’t think they gave the show an honest chance.

But they still give us lots of wrestling.

The show didn’t seem like it was built for the long haul. An episode like “What About Bob?” came way too early for my taste.

You set up a deceased evil badass in the pilot and wait a whole NINE episodes to bring him back to life?

That seems like something you don’t address until a later season. By cashing in that chip so fast, the show came off as being too aware of its own mortality. It came off as, well, a miniseries. And in the end, that’s how long it survived.
