Do you love this stuff or what? I know I do. What is your most favorite, most ingenious, most ghetto, most tacky or most ducky use for this all purpose miracle on a roll?
I’ll start. This last weekend my dog Buck had a wound to the pad of his foot–he somehow tore off a big ol piece of the rough, sandpaper like skin exposing the raw flesh underneath. It wasn’t bleeding but it was bruised and oozing and he licked it non-stop. All that I could handle but he also refused to walk on it so I decided it needed a bandage. In my most nurse like fashion I cleansed the wound applied antibiotic ointment then vaseline, gauze, and sports wrap. It was beautiful for about 1/2 hour; that’s how long it took for him to chew it off.
So I repeated the dressing but this time finished it off with a nice piece of duct tape applied on top of the sports wrap. It was so cute–like a little metallic boot or something. After a minute of freaking out and waving his hand around in a floppy sort of way he decided to put his foot down and was once again able to walk on it. He was running through the house in no time. The tape was impervious to licking, chewing and dirt and it did not come off. I changed the dressing daily for 3 days and by then it was healed enought to leave open to air. Four day later now the pad is nearly healed. I credit the duct tape.
“you can do anything with duct tape” … that’s the motto here at el rancho indebto.
Did you know that duct tape comes in groovy new colors? Home Depot has it in red and blue. I used the red stuff to build some cool bumpers for my slot car tables–just wrapped the duct tape around some sheet styrofoam and bolted the finished bumpers to the tables with deck hardware. Winning ugly … and the cars just bounce right off …
Ski Patrol and telemarkers wrap dutct tape around their ski poles so they will have in case of an emergency or if they are stuck in the back-country with a broken binding.
I use it to tape myself down when I play dress-up.
I made a vest out of duct tape, then tried to convince my male friends to wear it under their suit jacket to prom. Nobody took me up on it. … I fixed my prom shoes with duct tape last year… Fixed my prom dress this year, when the crinoline ripped… Fixed the hole in my car, as Gunny noted… Duct-tape wallet… Duct tape trim on jeans and shoes… Duct tape hole repair in knees of jeans.
This isn’t a personal anecdote, but I loved that scene in the movie Apollo 13 where they repaired the air filters on the space capsule using duct tape! As soon as I saw that, I knew I had to buy the video for my father, who knows only two standard repairs for all situations:
Tape it together with duct tape. Elapsed time: 7 seconds
Weld it back together using salvaged iron and/or steel. Elapsed time: Until the beer runs out or it gets too sweaty under his welding mask.
Dad’s an all-or-nothing kind of guy.
Right now, duct tape is holding together the rip my dog made in the vinyl top of my Isuzu Amigo in his latest bid for freedom.
Ah, you poor uninitiated people, you are using the inferior product Duct Tape and have never become acquainted with the true orginal product, gaffer’s tape. I have a huge roll I’ve been using for about 10 years (sparingly, because it’s really expensive). Mine has the price tag still on it, $29.95, and a friend of mine used a couple inches of it, saw the tag, and said “holy SHIT where did you find gaffer’s tape at THAT price! I paid more than twice that for my last roll!” Anyway, the gaffer’s tape I use is thick black cloth and is used for when you need opaque but thin coverings in lighting, cameras, etc. Best of all, it doesn’t leave residue when removed (the studio equipment rental companies get really pissed when you return their $150k Panavision camera with sticky gunk on it) but still holds just as tight as Duct Tape. Gaffer’s tape is an amazing product. Duct Tape doesn’t even come close.
my roommie and i got a couch from Goodwill for about $30. 'Course, it was hideous as all get out, so we went to Jo-Ann’s, got some fantastic cow-print fabric and preceded to make our couch beautiful! It looks stunning until you flip over the cushions…
I have duct tape holding the front drivers side fender of my car on. Of course, this car goes back to it’s old owner in a couple of weeks and I get my old car back, the one that my brother’s been driving for 3 years.
The original owner is a fan of duct tape though.
mermaid show up and in her best nurselike fashion bandages Laruange’s wounds with antibiotic ointment, vaseline, gauze and paper tape to the skin. Steps back and admires the skillfull dressing job.
