What's the strangest/best thing you've ever duct taped?

I was looking at a catalogue and it had a T-shirt for sale that said something like, “Real Men Use Duct Tape.” It reminded me of one of the weirder things we’ve done.
After a hurricane here all kinds of things were washing up on the beach, besides some really good shells you can’t ordinarily find. So we started going every couple days or so to see what we could find. One day a guy was studying some wooden deck loungers next to the water that had washed down from some motel. They were a little banged up and one was half-buried in the sand, but they were repairable. (They were double loungers with a little place in the middle to set your drinks.) He suggested that we help each other get them up to the cars and we could each have one. Which we did. He had a truck. We were in our van with a luggage rack on top. No rope. All we had was a roll of duct tape. And we taped that (big) sucker up and it didn’t even budge on the way home. :stuck_out_tongue: How about you?

Good idea for a thread topic. Sorry that I don’t have a personal story to tell. I was given a duct tape calendar once though. No, not one made out of duct tape, one with a duct tape story or project for each day. The one for Sunday, May 14, 2006 was instructions on how to make duct tape roses if you’d forgotten to get a Mother’s Day card or gift.

The instructions are supposed to be on their website at www.ducttapeguys.com, but when I checked to see if it was still there the site looked like a mess to navigate. It’s probably still there somewhere, though.

I held the bumper cover of my '86 Ford Tempo together for a couple of years with duct. Someone hit my car in a parking lot at college and ripped it and it was dragging on the ground. My dad taught me well and I always carried duct tape in my trunk. Taped that sucker back on and drove home. Kept thinking I would get it fixed, but it held so well that I never bothered. A roll of duct tape - way cheaper than getting it fixed.

A friend of mine refers to duct tape as “Minnesota Chrome.” Cracked me up.
Strangest thing I ever DT’d was a wart. It didn’t work.

It’s here.

How about an impact tester for car bumpers?

I duct taped a gaping leg wound from an axe until I could out of the woods.

I actually used it on a duct recently when I rerouted a heat register.

Yeah, I noted the irony.
mmm

I duct taped my left foot, put my boot back on, and continued on my merry way when I broke a couple of bones during a night out. Worked so well that I never did have to have it set - just wore tape and a pair of Doc Martins for work the next few weeks. Telemark has me beat in the wound repair category!

Currently, the passenger window on my van is off its track. Using duct tape to keep it from dropping until I get around to fixing it. So far, I’ve procrastinated on that project for about six months…

I was with a guy who duct taped his boot upper to his sole for a few days during an off trail backpack route in the Grand Canyon. Worked really well, held together long enough to get us out of there when it was time to climb.

OMG! I was telling my husband that I hoped somebody would post something like they broke their leg and the bone was sticking out and they duct taped it to make it to the ER…Cool!

I don’t blame you. With medical costs the way they are I wouldn’t have had it looked at, either, if it was working. :stuck_out_tongue:

Percussion stuff. And a couple trailers.

I was a co-pit captain for two years in band in high school. Part of my job seriously seemed to be providing tape for whatever we had to do–fixing equipment, using electrical tape on our snare sticks, etc. Many mallets were salvaged using different kinds of tape

Oh, and we used duct tape to mark the locations of where we wanted the instruments on the trailers one year. I suspect it’s still on those trailers…

I videotape concerts, and recently I had to shoot three concerts in two different locations in two days. I shot one in Kansas City, then took the Megabus overnight to Chicago where I had to set up and shoot another show at noon. All was working well, except I ripped the seat of my pants on the way from Union Station to the South Loop concert location. Fortunately, I had duct tape, and I taped the ass of my pants up good and shot both concerts.

Wound up meeting the performer for the evening show at the same location, who asked if we’d be interested in shooting his show as well…but I was really tired after shooting two concerts in a row, following a night sleeping on a bus and with a duct-taped ass. It would just be tempting fate.

I have a whole-house fan in my hallway which I never use and is broken anyway. The louvers don’t close tight and I am pretty sure I am losing heat and air-conditioned air up through there.

After complaining about it a lot and not having money to do anything about it, my boyfriend at the time helped me tape the whole thing over with duct tape. We used a whole roll taping one strip at a time one way, then the other way until we had an entire sheet of the stuff covering the louvers. It took FOREVER.

I don’t know why we didn’t just put 4 pieces of tape around a trash bag and stick it up there. Maybe we did at one point and it failed. But this duct tape sheet was so heavy and the glossy ceiling paint so slick, and the louvers so billowy that she sheet came un-stuck repeatedly until I just took it off.

At one point, it fell down but instead of landing on the floor it stuck to my wall and left a big streak of duct tape residue that I have yet to clean off some 3 years later.

I was just thinking about that duct tape sheet the other day. It was the nicest thing any boyfriend has ever do for me. What a sad life I lead.

Not me, but when I boarded my horse at a barn, one kid’s horse had lost a shoe, but he still wanted to go trail riding. He duct-taped the heck out of the hoof. Of course, it wasn’t enough and his horse was lame so he couldn’t do a barrel-racing competition the next day.

Actually, I do have one - when my horse had an abscess in the sole of his foot and my vet had me put some medicine in it and cover it with a baby diaper duct-taped on his hoof.

This is not as kinky as it sounds. Really.

Once I put on my best bra, a long sleeved t shirt and then stood still while my friend duct taped them to me. Then he used scissors to cut the shirt up my spine and pull it off my body.

I promptly laid the duct taped pattern on the table, cut it up the sides and used it for a patern.

I duct-taped on a side mirror of a car.

Really liking these…and learning something!

Not me but my cube mate created knee-length boots in purple, green and pink duct tape for her two daughters and a neighbor kid for their halloween costumes. They’re going as the Three Muskateers (girl power version). None of the three wanted to take their boots off after they were fitted!
