the effect of fine arts and music on SAT scores and college entry exams

I’m doing a report/power point presentation at school over the effects fine arts has on test scores compared to students who didn’t/don’t participate. Does anyone have any information/research I could use?

I suggest you start with this great site.

I’ve been working on it… but knowing something more than my topic question could narrow the search greatly…

That’s some good cross-postin’…

Anyways, should I go off and perform this research for you, do I get credit in the presentation? You know, as the guy that actually did all of the work?

Alternately, you could actually attempt to use Google. I turned up a number of associations that have published peer-reviewed studies on exactly your topic, all with about 45 seconds worth of effort. Another option is to do it the old-fashioned way, by going to a public library and performing “research.” This method, though crude, allowed me to successfully write research papers long before this crazy internet thingy.

Well, I can tell ya this: I listen to Metallica, and never took the SAT. Got admitted to a college though. Don’t know if this is at all relevant, but according to the PSAT’s prediction, I would have gotten somewhere between a 1250 and 1350 on the “real deal.”

Is this PPT going to address the possibility that any organized, special focus study would also improve SAT scores? Or that students who have shown a commitment to music and fine arts have a better school experience (more attention, benefit of the doubt, etc.) and, consequently, a better education?

Also, what about clip art? Should we suggest some?

er… thanks for what help you gave me, but I think I’ve got everything I need, now. I stretched the topic to cover the effect on education and mental development in general, because I couldn’t find much on the actual research done on the SATs. lol, If you want to suggest clip art, I’ll take it into consideration, and hope our school computers have something close to it.
