The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim post-release thread

I am so pissed at the game for what happened in Markarth. Not the questline - the damn bugs in it! I didn’t even try to break the sequence, bu the nature of the game is such that you can figure out what occurred and why in the mystery even before resolving everything, which causes the quest to advance to the next step but not resolve. I’m now pissed as hell because I can only advance through console commands, which will ruin my achievement gain.

Yup, that’s how it works.

On an off-the-beaten-path side-side quest last night I ventured into a small dungeon that had the most difficult-to-open barrier I’ve yet encountered. It required by-far the most hunting around and most unusual opening solution of anything I’ve encountered yet:

A gate blocked the only passage to the objective. After exploring for 15 minutes looking for a switch or button or chain (and even using Clairvoyance, to no benefit), I found a pressure plate - on top of a dining table. Picking up and placing a basket on the plate caused the gate to open and remain open.

I’m not sure about the truth of this statement from the UESP wiki on followers:

Followers choose equipment by the base item and do not account for enchantments and user smithing enchancement. As a result, they will always equip an ebony armor piece over an orcish one, even if the orcish one has been double-enchanted and has twice the armor rating from smithing. Similarly, they may wear a plain piece of jewelry over an enchanted one if it has a higher base gold value.

This doesn’t seem to be the case in my experience. For example, my follower had base steel plate armor with armor rating / weight numbers of 40/38. She equipped the improved Dwemer armor that has base numbers of 34/45 (weaker and heavier than her starting equipment in its base state). After I improved the Dwemer armor it had better numbers than the steel and she wore it no problem.

I’m going to discount the wiki information and continue to improve my followers’ armor unless someone can point out how I’m off base here. Are they speaking of enchanted armor and not just plain old improved armor? I’m not sure what they mean by “enchancement” in the bolded part of the quote.

Edit: I see it’s under the “bugs” section. Maybe it’s not true in all cases.

According to the Wiki there’s a show/hide all markers console command.

I a mightily angered with some of the bugs.

First the thieve’s guild quest quit out on me, and now Markath is bugged. During my exit under duress, guards attacked me (when they shouldn’t have apparently) and I killed a couple of them before making my escape. Now, several days later I’m always accosted by a guard when trying to get near the city, but the conversation is bugged.

Even if I surrender the guard is stuck in a loop!

Guard: “Hold! You killed a bunch of us, Surrender”

ME: “OK, sorry, take me to prison!”

Guard: “Hahaha! You will never see the light of day again!”

Guard: “Hold! You killed a bunch of us, Surrender”

Me: …

So now the Thieve’s gild is closed and so is Markath!

Can you reset the quest with the console and start it over? If you reset the quest, save and exit, and then load the game again, it shouldn’t affect your achievements. There could be problems with NPCs or objects not being reset to the right states for the quest, but I don’t think that would leave you any worse off than you are now, and you could always restore to the save before you tried it.

Fortunately, the use of console commands doens’t seem to afect them, so I have a way around it. I will probably go back some saves, do other things, and then try again legitimately first.

So, I started my game over again and want to stay at level 1 for as long as I can. That’s been a fun trip so far, but not very profitable, as you’d imagine. Nevertheless, I’m about to go after the Oghma Infinima, so that should be excruciating.

According to Oghma Infinium | Elder Scrolls | Fandom you must be at least level 15 to get the quest.

See, the way I read it says that you have to be level 15 to get the book. Either way, I should probably level up to 15 to ensure I can get it done. I have the “Discerning The Mundane” quest right now.

Must… resist… urge… to… exploit… glitch…

From the UESP:

(Fortify Restoration) is glitched such that drinking a fortify xxx potion, or equipping a fortify xxx armor will have increased fortify effects. This allows you to create a super powerful character by drinking a lot of fortify restoration potions in succession, since even though they dont stack, one makes the next one’s effect stronger. This exploit also allows for shouting without cooldown, should someone decide to equip an amulet of talos while having an active 500% fortify restoration effect.

You also get something like this.

Okay, maybe staying at level one is a bad idea. A Dwarven Spider Worker took some time to kill and lots of minor health potions on the second hardest difficulty. Hmph.

ETA: Okay, apparently I wasn’t wearing any armor. That’s not helpful.

:eek::confused:

“hits have a small chance to instantly kill” while having a base damage rating of 516?

“yeah. no kidding. thanks for the tip.” would have been my reply.

Here is my wish list for mods:

  1. A sortable favorites menu so that weapons, spells, shouts and potions are each under their own rubric;
  2. A hotkey mod that lets you have more hotkeys; there was a mod like this for Oblivion that let you have 24 hotkeys: regular 1-8, then shift + 1-8 and finally ctrl + 1-8;
  3. Better looking light armor;
  4. A wizard’s tower type stronghold

Am I the only one who expects to turn around and find M-O every time I happen to be near a town guard while using magic?

Well, I hope I did my album right. More to come in the future I think.
Skyrim Adventures pt. 1

In other news, it seems like my Companion quest has flaked out. I finished the quest to get the hag’s heads, but I’m not getting the next extermination quest from Vilkas. I thought the console command to advance quest objectives might work, but I think that’s a whole new questline. Any known console commands that can start new questlines? I tried reloading several saves, but the same thing happens; Vilkas tells me we’re going to kick some Silver Hand butt, but the new quest doesn’t start.

As far as bugs in general go, I keep several saved games for every character just in case. Although I haven’t really had that much trouble actually.

Same thing happened to me. There are two bugs in that quest that may be biting you:

This thread’s gigantic, but: is there really no option to be all like

bitches, I am the dragonborn, rightful heir to Tiber Septim’s legacy. Y’all Stormcloaks, fuck off. Imperial fuckers? You go fuck yourselves too. I’m the new emperor and y’all are all going to get behind me so we can go fuck some Thalmor up. Yeehaw. Now find me a wench then bathe her and bring her to me.

Cuz that would be good.

I did clear the refuge a few days early, but I went out there again after this “bug” and it appears that everyone had respawned already. I cleared it anyway just for a bit of revenge. I guess I’ll be waiting awhile and see if it works out. Thanks.
