At that point, I just reload. Even if the last save is before I started unloading my junk. Then I remind myself to be more diligent with the “F5”.
Here’s a picture of a real cuirass made from Pangolin scales.
Thelurkinghorror’s latest post in the Nixon-is-a-mammal MPSIMS thread led me to it. I’ve never seen real “scale armor” and just wanted to share.
Ha! I’ve done the same. Both accidentally grabbing everything, and developing the habit of pressing F5 every time I open a container of mine.
My interface pet peeve is it is constantly selecting a Speech option that I didn’t pick. I am pointing at the one I want; it’s highlighted but I click and a different one is selected. I don’t know what’s worse: when it is the wrong one that makes a plot difference and I have to reload or when it keeps selecting the same wrong one over and over again so I hear it a million times.
For what it’s worth, the “real” selected choice is the one that’s in a slightly larger font, which is supposed to be the same as the highlighted one but, as you’ve experienced, sometimes isn’t. If you want to be sure, scroll all the way to the top or bottom so you know exactly where the selection is and then move to your choice. Also helps if you keep the mouse pointer away from the choice list if you’re using the keyboard to choose.
There’s a fan based smithing mod that does that, IIRC.
I plant the Bounty Notices on the bodies of the kill. Reduces inventory clutter. ![]()
Use w / s to move and enter to select. No mouse! Move the cursor off of the bototm right. If you think it might be off-kilter, push w or s a bunch of times until you’re sure you’re at the top/bottom, then select from there.
And remember, mouse cursor away from the options!
That’s not how it works on my system. When you first enter a menu, the item that’s selected by default appears in a larger font, and remains that size no matter what method you use to select menu options.
I just started as Fug Squishmore, an Imperial and I’ve worked my way up to level 10 by doing a few basic quests, lots of wandering and clearing a few dungeons. There was one thing that really pissed me off though. After killing the first dragon, I absorbed the soul and everyone around me is staring in amazement wondering if I’m dragon-born. The game tells me to use the dragon shout to prove it to the fools. So I do and they are duly impressed.
They then tell me to hike into the hills (up 7000 steps!) and see the greybeards. And what’s the first thing they tell me to do? A dragon shout! Which I of course cannot do because I already used my one dragon soul impressing the hicks in the valley. Sons of bitches. At level 10, I’m nowhere near strong enough to sword-bash a dragon to death. My archery is decent but not particularly special and my magic is about the same. So how am I going to stumble upon another dragon soul without spending the rest of my life grinding upwards in levels?
You only need a soul to LEARN the shout. You can use it repeatedly after that without spending more. Just give 'em the same shout you gave the hicks.
Unless you marched all the way up to High Hrothgar in ~15 seconds and you haven’t recharged yet. Then Christopher Plummer won’t be impressed by your lack of Voice.
I just bought the game for PS3 a few days ago, so forgive for not having read the entire thread.
I would like the game a lot if it weren’t for the goddamned bugs I’m running across. Actually, I don’t know that they’re bugs, but whatever it is it’s irritating.
I’m stuck in a loop right now. It’s my own fault for not realizing I’d been turned into a vampire and that I need to do something about it. I ran through two separate quest-tracks until I became blood-starved and hence so hated that I was attacked by everyone I met - I couldn’t complete any mission. Twice I went back to a previous save, blowing away hours of game play.
In one of those tracks, I was doing one of the first college missions, where you have to distract the giant skeleton dude while your teacher drains the sphere. The first time I got to the sphere, in the hallway, for some reason my teacher started attacking me. Nothing I could do but run around and avoid the teacher and the monster until I got fed up and went back to a save.
Anyway … blew that out of the water anyway because I decided to go back to my earliest save point - 10 hours of game play gone - and solve the vampire dilemma. I finally figure out precisely what I’m supposed to do - I get the black soul gem, I smoke a farmer with my enchanted hunting bow - I capture his soul in the black gem - and when I get back to where whatshisname is going to hook me up with the ritual, he’s in his house behind a locked door and he won’t come out. I waited there for a day. I went and got 8 hours of sleep at the inn. I went back and waited another few hours. I went out of town and fucked around for a while and went back and he was still inside.
In the meantime, yep, blood-starved vampire, everybody hates me and I die.
Back to square one, the second chunk of hours worth of gameplay down the toilet.
I’m giving it one more chance. If I get effed like this again, I’m trading it in.
Who am I kidding. I’ll either slog through or stick in the drawer with Madden 11 and Ghostbusters.
I made a mildly amusing comic about Skyrim, so I thought I’d share. Maybe I should make a mod. ![]()
Get yourself to an inn and talk to the innkeeper. They’ll direct you to the guy who can cure your vampirism. You’ll need a soul trap spell though.
The Creation Kit is out on the 7th, Bethesda promises a “surprise” will it. Hmmm…
I might be missing something, but people’s fear of you goes away if you sneak in while they’re asleep and feed.
Also, supposedly Companions, DB, and Thieves’ Guild don’t care if you are “showing” as long as you’re a member.
Then clear it and become a werewolf, and enjoy less disadvantages with 100% disease immunity so you can become a vampire again. Although, maybe you keep immunity after clearing?
I managed to cure myself of the vampirism, so I’m back on track … of getting my ass kicked by trees and shit.
But, yeah, I’m enjoying the game so far. I hope I can get more out of it - as I said in that other thread, the whole dragons and magic potions is pretty much new ground for me. I’m usually a sports gamer.
hey new to the board. seems like a nice place. just have one quick question.
my character specializes in the 2 handed great sword.
what is the most powerfull greatsword in skyrim and how does one obtain it?
or do they top out at smithing a Daedric greatsword once your smithing hits 90?
thanks.
The second. One minor flaw in the game is that no weapon you find can rival the weapons you can create IF you concentrate on the crafting disciplines. A fully upgraded Daedric weapon plus maxed enchanting mods is pretty much the pinnacle.
I’d love to be corrected on the above, but there is a distinct lack of awe-inspiring treasure to be looted.
well thanks very much for that.
i guess that leaves me with only one other question regarding smithing then. does the smithing potions stack?
will i smith/upgrade gear better if i say take 3 smithing potions instead of 1? and if so were does it top off at?
