The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim post-release thread

Also, if you have a companion with you, you can tell them to use any nearby bedding and feed on them while they sleep.

Also; if you do choose to be a vampire a good choice is a Dark Elf stealth specialist since Dark Elves resist fire (which vamps are weak to) and stealth-kill types have less problem with the lack of daylight regeneration of Health & Magicka.

I don’t know if this has been covered but if you have the necromage perk under restoration and you are a vampire, your buffing enchantments are more effective. The game treats enchantments as spells and treats you as undead.

You can free up a few enchantment slots with this.

The underground whispers on the official Beth forums are that Tuesday’s surprise with the Creation Kit is going to be a high resolution texture pack.

Finished the main quest with a Redguard mace/shield/heavy armor fighter. By 20th level or so the only way I was getting killed was gross carelessness, like falling off cliffs or forgetting to change out of my bartering gear. (Part of that gear was a light armor helmet, so I lost a lot of bonuses.)

Restarted as a high elf on master difficulty and got killed several times just getting out of Helgen. Going to have to get in the habit of saving all the time and using my follower as more than just a mule, but it’s cool how differently it plays.

I got the game as a birthday gift back in December for the 360. I barely made it to the first town and the game froze up on me. The game was scratched. I gave it back to the people who gave it to me, they exchanged it, and I finally got it again last Friday. I’ve been playing most of this weekend. I’m up to level 12. I’m playing as an Altmer. I’m trying to be a pure Mage, no weapons or armor, just magic, scrolls, and staves. I’ve killed 3 dragons so far, the last totally by myself, as Lydia had died shortly before in Stillborn Cave. I’m currently in my first Dwemer ruin. Skyrim is huge! I love this game!

Lydia can’t die unless you murder her. I’d advise you to load a saved game before you finished her off.

I’m doing the same thing. Only level 7 though and no dead dragons (I got distracted from the main quest and was combing dungeons). But I recently played Oblivion and went sword & board through the whole thing (aside from some heal spells and soul taps) and, when I started Skyrim, saw myself falling into the same role. I decided that I’d better try something radically different or else I’d get bored.

It doesn’t help that heavy armor and weapons falls like rain and mage gear is few and far between.

As a semi-related aside, I noticed that stock +50% Magicka Regen robes sell for 3x the amount as my robe that gives +50% M. Regen and +12% Illusion bonus. What’s up with that?

I’m playing through as a pure mage as well. Someone here suggested Midas Magic Mod and it is great, it really adds some complexity to the mage class that Skyrim had taken out. I wish that the mage armor was more robust, though. It is one area where mages get shafted.

It’s too late. I’ve done too many things since. It sucks that she had to get in my way during melee. I was so happy to finally kill the Falmer though. I tried a couple times solo and failed. She was a great tank-mule; she is missed. I hired a mercenary in Windhelm to replace her, but he couldn’t make it through the Dwemer ruins I’m in now. He was my third companion. Lydia was my second. I got an archer in Riverwood, but I accidentally hit him during melee and had to intentionally kill him after it was over because I hadn’t learned Calm yet.

Sheathe your weapon and they will stop fighting if friendly. If it doesn’t work right away, alternate drawing and sheathing again.

If that’s the same merc I’m thinking of, I hired him to sacrifice on an altar.

Not 100% true. It’s easier during the earlier levels, but if enough damage is done to her in one shot, she will die. I had her die fighting a giant (stomp) and a dragon (breath). Both times she was already very hurt when the enemy hit her with a big attack. She never died after ~ level 12 (except by my hand when she ran in front of my arrows…remember your lanes girl) as there was enough of a HP buffer between when she goes down and when she dies.

Once a follower is sufficiently damaged, then they will kneel and enemies will cease to target them. They can still die in rare situations, including when the Dragonborn purposely or accidentally hits them, or it seems when an AOE effect spell or dragon breath hits them. In that case, the enemy is not directly targeting them, but attacking you or another NPC and the effect hits them.

My kingdom for a Fallout-style “You companion has died” message.

Question:

Are items with sneak buffs extremely rare? I’m level 51 and haven’t come across a single one, either dropped after a fight or available for sale in a store. So I can’t enchant anything with sneak, which is really pissing me off. I spent a few game days (20 or 30) trying to get one to spawn in a store but no luck. Is this usual?

I think it’s semi-random. I’ve had characters where several drop, and others where none do. “Muffle” is another hard to find one I’ve noticed.

OK, thanks. I’ll keep searching. I thought something might have glitched, but after hearing what you said, maybe not. Ta.

My son is about to turn 15 and his only birthday wish is Skyrim. Would anyone have any hesitation about recommending the game for a 15-year-old? I’ve been asking around and have heard nothing but high praise for it, but I’d love to get more feedback from your own good selves before we make a decision.

Thanks!

You got a beheading, in all its golory, in the first cut scene. There’s a fair bit of blood flying around throughout the game, but nothing you wouldn’t see on prime time TeeVee.

I don’t think there’s much in the way of swearing or sex. Then again, I’m just a level 12 with about 50 hrs of gameplay, so who knows if there’s some dragon orgy at higher levels.

This game is designed for 15 year olds. Get it for him.

Even the beheading is pretty “clean”. You’d expect that removing someone’s head would produce more than a small red spot but nope.

I’ve let my 12 year old son watch me play without any worry. The blood splatters are standard video game “red splats” and barely count as graphic these days. I’d buy the game for him on his PS3 but the cost is high enough to justify waiting for an occasion.

Awesome! Thanks!

Dragon orgy – snerk

I’ll just make sure my husband is out of the room during the beheading, and we should be golden.

Thanks muchly! You’ve made a soon-to-be-15-year-old very happy in advance!

In terms of what is shown the game is rather mild, however some of the things you can (and often are forced to) do can get pretty nasty, even when not actually shown. DAEDRIC QUEST SPOILERS FOLLOW: This is especially true for the Daedric quests, one features you joining a group of cannibals, another has you slowly beating a restrained man to death (twice actually), and others give you options of killing in cold blood for rewards. Once again little of this is shown in any kind of graphic detail, but depending on the type of content you are concerened over this may still be a problem for you. In general I wouldn’t think any of this content would be a problem for the average teen, and most of this kind of stuff is shown in far more graphic and brutal forms on your average prime time drama.
