The end for The Big Bang Theory?

Frankly, you’re richer than more than a billion other people (perhaps more than three billion other people?) in the world. Do you deserve your success (which is partly due to the accident of being born in a first-world country)? All of life is a lottery.

Well, they aren’t going with our ideas. In the new season: Penny becomes a pharmaceutical rep for Bernadette’s firm and rakes in some serious money.

Okaaaaaay…

yeah that’s been rumored.

they might pull it off if she were part of a team where self generated verbal output was limited.

Actually I could see it.

I think a lot of salespeople depend on a rehearsed pitch. She was an actress and can certainly memorize what she needs to talk about. Plus she’ll be able to use her natural charm.

That’s charms, plural. But they aren’t natural.

Cite that Cuoco has implants. Not saying I don’t believe it, just don’t remember hearing that.

I don’t believe it. While her boobs are lovely, they’re not all that big.

Well, how’s http://parade.condenast.com/277751/ashleighschmitz/kaley-cuoco-says-getting-breast-implants-was-the-best-decision-i-ever-made/ for a citation?

I’d be pretty much for any story line that would kill the Penny-Leonard thing once and for all. They’ve always been a terrible match as far as I’m concerned. He needs a nice, smart, geeky girl and she needs someone much less whiny.

This next season may well determine whether I quit watching or not.

I don’t see how in real life a “Penny” goes from waitressing to a pharm rep. making more money than a “Leonard” without several years of education under her belt. Unless they are going to play the Beavis and Butthead angle of having Berny introduce Penny to the guys who would hire her and after a short interview and after they leave the guys go,

Butthead: “Huh huh huh, huh huh huh she’s blonde and has big titties and a nice ass. Lets hire her.”

Beavis: “Yeah! Yeah! Titties!”

I don’t think its that unrealistic. Pharm reps don’t actually have to know that much about the stuff they are selling. Their job is to charm and persuade doctors (and be remembered). As such, big boobs are indeed more of an asset than brains. They do tend to be more than averagely good looking.

Thought I heard that before. That cite’s good enough for me.

Anyone else hear a motorcycle revving?

Yes, I can see Penny in a low cut top and a my cup runneth over type bra doing well in a sales job.

Well, I know nothing of sales and company reps. but I can accept your guys word. If she gets some commission on top of basic pay then I could see her making money.

Have you ever met any pharmaceutical reps? The ones that waltz into the doctor’s office while I’m in the waiting room have all seemed dumber than a box of hair. If anything, the producers could setup a perfectly realistic scene where Penny is the brain of her office pals.

We seem to have a Doper for everything…surely we have one who is either a pharmaceutical rep, or deals with them, to comment?
I still haven’t watched the last three episodes from last season - they’re hanging out on my DVR, presumably waiting patiently for my viewing. I guess I should get around to it, just in case I decide to watch the new season when it happens.

Here’s an article from the New York Times where they stated that pharmaceutical companies commonly recruited college cheerleaders to be representatives:

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/28/business/28cheer.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Given that Penny is an actress and has a friend in the pharmaceutical industry, this is a very believable premise.

From that:
**In a federal lawsuit against Novartis, one saleswoman said she had been encouraged to exploit a personal relationship with a doctor to increase sales in her Montgomery, Ala., territory. In court papers responding to the lawsuit, Novartis denied the accusation. The company has also said it is committed to hiring and promoting women. **
Dunno if that last bit was the best thing to bring forth.

I never understood the argument you are making about actors/athletes/musicians/whatever not deserving the money they make.

Think of it this way, if TBBT pulls in 20 million viewers per episode and a lead actor is paid 1 million per episode, the actor is earning a nickel per half hour per viewer.

That is a hell of a deal.
