AT&T stops Time Of Day service
One of the things I had to adjust to when I moved to Washington was not being able to call 853-1212 to get the time of day. All my life (well, as long as I’ve had a need to get the correct time anyway) I’ve been able to call that number. I thought maybe Washington had its own TOD number and I just didn’t know it. I searched a little, but never found it. My PowerBook gets its TOD from Apple automatically, so I could always look there. And while it doesn’t display seconds, I could also use the cable box. And of course my mobile has the correct time. But I still liked and missed the ability to call a number and get the time. Thursday I asked my boss if there was such a number in Washington. Turns out there’s not:
There have been a lot of nostalgia threads. Perhaps the TOD number will be remembered in a future one.
