Months ago. in the 301 area code in Maryland,I could dial 301-TI4-2525 to hear the time or 301-WE6-1212 to hear a weather report. Those numbers no longer work for me. Have these telephone services really been dropped? Thanks.
There was a lot of media coverage last year over Verizon’s decision to drop these free services, which they apparently have finally done.
Cooking: Thanks for the so-rapid response. Very impressive.
Well, I kept hearing about it, like it was news or something. In particular there was a very small company that provided the weather forecasts who probably went out of business as a result.
We had WE6-1212 (weather) and 844-1414 (time) in Milwaukee as well, but I don’t think they’ve been working for the last 5 or 10 years.
In the Boston area, dialing NERVOUS (637-8687, apparently?) would get you the time. I haven’t tried it in 20 years (since before 10-digit dialing!).
These days, I believe Norvus picks up and asks for a pint of blood.
My gosh, over here in my quadrant of the galaxy, we haven’t had dial-up time and weather like that for Og-knows how many years! (This is mostly AT&T territory.) I’m gafferblasted to read here that it has recently still existed anywhere.
