The end (of winter) is in sight!

At our local community center the other day, the field out front was covered with robins. It was weird - I’ve never seen that many of them together in one spot. We’re supposed to get up to 60 this weekend. I hope we settle in for a beautiful, North Carolina spring and I promise I will not complain about hot weather this summer. I’m usually a cold-weather person, but I’ve been fantasizing lately about walking around barefoot and not having to wear a scarf every time I take the dog out.

Yesterday I spent about half an hour sitting on the deck in a sleeveless top. It’s even nicer today. We did get snow at some point this winter but it only lasted a day before it melted.

I kind of like the imminence of a season change almost better than the actual season. The sense of something about to happen. It’s nice and sunny and drippy/melty here today, it’s beautiful. The snow is still clean, not all grey and sludgey.

I always feel sorry for the robins. Apparently Kentucky is where they fly south to, so they’re around all winter. I talk to them. “Hey! You robins! Aren’t you supposed to be somewhere WARM?”

I see robins all year in Arkansas.
Turned on the A/C in the sunny car yesterday. There is still snow on the ground in some places. In the 50s today.

I can see grass (and mud) again in the apartment building courtyard. Lots of it, actually. And it’s still pretty dark when I leave in the morning, but it’s light now when I come up out of the 15th Street station.

This afternoon I finally found a bridge across the Schuykill with clear sidewalks. For my fellow Philly walkers, it’s the Market Street bridge; the Walnut and Chestnut bridges are still covered with trampled ice and slush. Apparently no one is responsible for the sidewalks on Philadelphia bridges, or at least no one wants to take responsibility, so they’re left for spring to take care of, and meanwhile pedestrians must take their chances.

I only have a few more weeks of skiing! Why is winter so GD short?
I love those days with blue skies, white snow covering everything…and raing down a powderly slope!
But, I console myself…October is only seven months away!

I rode home today on perfectly dry roads with these 6 foot tall walls of snow on either side of them and the sun glaring off the whiter patches. Things like this are why I consider doing drugs redundant; life just keeps handing me one acid trip after another.

There’s a day that happens here every year - I call it Spring Day. It’s the first true day of spring on a weekend, where everyone who isn’t an invalid is out doing something, anything in the beautiful, warm, sunny day. We might still get a little winter after Spring Day, but the balance has tipped and spring is in charge now. It’s my favourite day of the year.

Not for me, It’s only supposed to get colder and effing snow some more…:frowning:

I’ve been out cleaning up the patio. (Some year I’m going to stretch tarps from the retaining walls to the roof so I don’t have *^%#@#$ leaves all over everything in the spring as well as all ^%#%^ fall.) It’s not truly warm out yet, but the sun is out for the first time in a couple months and you can work outside in your shirtsleeves. And glory be, most of my perennial herbs are already coming back up. I rooted around in the lemon balm just for the pleasure of stirring up the fresh, summery smell.

68 today - we put the top down on the convertible.

I, unfortunately, am AT WORK. :frowning:

Here in N. Texas we have 20% chance of snow on tues. I want some warm weather now!
cold sucks

We just got another 2 feet of the white stuff, but 6 months of winter here is normal. Spring != no snow, either, but it does have a different feel. Longer days, I suppose.

18 inches fell in Reno last night and today. I’m looking forward to skiing tomorrow.

Expected storm passed just to the south - the first break we had all year. About time too - I have a very small front yard and the snow shovelled off the driveway is about head height already - I don’t know where to put any more.

I was going to mention the snowstorm Iowa Girls Basketball always brings into town, but I see Auntie Pam beat me too it.

But atl least the auditors are done and out of my life for another year - that always means spring is coming!

We were expecting a wintry mix today - now it looks like rain. Maybe that will melt all the snow!

My husband heard “our” cardinal singing on Saturday - each year, we get a male that stakes out our yard as part of his turf, and when you hear him back and singing, you know spring will be on its way.

Today they’re predicting 8 inches of snow for the Chicago area. Stay warm and dry, Mr. Cardinal!

Spring is on the way here in south Jawja. All the pine trees have that light green pollen tinge that will soon turn yellow and be everywhere! Damn pine trees. I don’t even have any pine trees in my yard. I say the neighbors should keep their pine pollen in their own yards!

Sometime this week I will need to fertilize my yard. The last week of February is yard fertilizing week down here. Matter of fact I’m headed to  Wally*World  in a bit and one of my purchases will be fertilizer.

I checked the outdoor thermometer on our thermostat this morning, and it said it was 37 outside. It’s above freezing! Woo Hoo! We might even get some rain to wash some of this snow away.
