Just remembered, I was told that the last time the Italians won 1st (not sure if it was EURO or FIFA), the Italians over here in Melbourne were so united that all the restaurants in Lygon Street (u’ll know if u’ve been here b4) were closed in celebration.
It just makes you feel kind of all nice-y and happy for them when they do things “together” like that. I haven’t heard of any other group of people do that here in Melb. Wonder if it will happen again.
But then again, i’m hoping for the french like I said before.
I haven’t really got anything to add. Just thought I’d rather put my 1000th post here than in any of the several Elián González/ immigration debates I’m in at the moment.
Pardon my French, but FUCK. How the HELL did we let this one slip away??
We were dominant in the first half. Italy lost a player in the 19th minute. We got two penalties. Bergkamp hit the post. Kluivert had a few near misses. Van Vossen and Seedorf sucked as I thought they would, but hey: they were substitutes.
The rest of the team played, well, good - apart from actually SCORING, that is. Bosvelt and Davids were my main men. Kluivert and Cocu played brilliant as well.
But Italy succeeded: they withstood a strong Dutch team with just 10 men. Not by a game of beauty, but efficient nonetheless. Gotta hand it to them.
And let’s face it: if you get six penalties, and only score one, you DON’T belong in the finals of Euro 2000. End of fucking story. I hope for the sake of football that France wins it: at least they win by actually charging the opponents goal, like our team. The Italians seemed to show little interest in winning by scoring - as predicted.
Dammit, this sucks. Even though I know we deserved to lose, what with fucking up so many opportunities.
I finally got my computer back (2 weeks of irretrievably dead hard drive, can’t begin to explain the trauma). Very sorry about the loss of transmission - I’ll finish the round 1 table later today. Only consolation has been wall to wall sport on the TV…
That Spain vs. Yugo game was something else.
Coldie, terribly sorry about last night’s travesty. I thought your boys realy got their game together after the initial ‘prima donna’ problems and i hoped they would go all the way. Holland played some beautiful football. It’s a great shame they won’t be there on Sunday.
…for the Arrogant Frogs vs. Evil Spaghetti Felching Coward Mussolini Lovers match.
Based on London_Callings Criterea:
Correct score: France 2, Italy 0
Correct Outcomes: Frogs beat Mussolini Lovers
First team to score: Frogs
First player to score: Henry
And, optionally:
Number of penalties taken: 8
Number missed: 2
And I’m NOT bitter. I wish the coward evil ravioli squicking catanacho mafia idiots all the best and good luck against the snotty snail slurping non-showering terrible driving frog bastards
Hmm, you mean Oldham’s ‘preperations’ are likely to involve more than chip butties, chasing ferrets around the trousers and rather a lot of neckin it. Mind you, that Lindsay ‘Lurch’ Davenport looks like she’d do well in Rugby League.
