The Evil Green Chicken Declares Detente!

The Evil Green Chicken, a.k.a. Sami, my Quaker Parrot, has declared detente with my hubby. She is an extremely possessive bird, and wasn’t real thrilled about Dave messing with her. She would hiss and act like she was going to bite him if he even breathed near her cage. Needless to say, he didn’t think much of her.

Last night, she was up on the top of her cage, peeping at him and acting like she wanted to go to him. I told him to hold his hand out and say “Up!” just to see what she would do. And promised to take him to the ER if she bit his finger off.

She stepped up onto his hand, gave him the once over and was invited to sit on his shoulder. We let her do that for a couple of moments, then Dave went to her cage and said, “Go home, Sami” and she hopped right onto the cage. To say I’m chuffed is an understatement. Ever since my Cockatiel, Gabriel, passed away a couple of months back, she’s mellowed out a good deal, plus she got a new cage that’s nice and big so she can have all kinds of things to do.

She’s also started to say “I love you” and make kissing noises when you say “Give kisses?” From a bird who was treated like crap by people who thought it was funny to teach her to swear and watch her fall off her perch when they blew pot smoke in her face, she’s come quite a long way.

I’m so happy I could bust! :stuck_out_tongue:

Awwww! My lovebird loves my husband, even though I am her person. She’s nowhere near as well trained as your baby though. I’m glad she’s progressing so well. Pics? (And are you on livejournal? I’m a member of a parrot community on there, and I could swear I remember someone with your birdies names.)

I don’t have any pics of Sami here on my work computer, so I’ll have to dig some up off of my laptop at home.

Yup, I’m on LJ—Bella_Cheval.

My Evil Green Chicken is the most evil. He has issues. Serious issues. He was abandoned at my clinic and now I know why. The dude killed a mouse that got in his cage … and ate some bits! He’s tasted human flesh as well and I think he likes it a lot. This is a seriously aggressive bird. But he’s funny so I like him and I could never inflict him on someone else. Although I do threaten to take him to work to have the other staff practice handling birds. I wouldn’t actually do it because I don’t want to have to fill all their shifts when he kills them all.

All I have to say to that is

As requested, I have pictures of Sami. Here’s the link to her album on Photobucket:

Link won’t work for me, asks me to log in.

Poodles.
