The Evil Green Chicken, a.k.a. Sami, my Quaker Parrot, has declared detente with my hubby. She is an extremely possessive bird, and wasn’t real thrilled about Dave messing with her. She would hiss and act like she was going to bite him if he even breathed near her cage. Needless to say, he didn’t think much of her.
Last night, she was up on the top of her cage, peeping at him and acting like she wanted to go to him. I told him to hold his hand out and say “Up!” just to see what she would do. And promised to take him to the ER if she bit his finger off.
She stepped up onto his hand, gave him the once over and was invited to sit on his shoulder. We let her do that for a couple of moments, then Dave went to her cage and said, “Go home, Sami” and she hopped right onto the cage. To say I’m chuffed is an understatement. Ever since my Cockatiel, Gabriel, passed away a couple of months back, she’s mellowed out a good deal, plus she got a new cage that’s nice and big so she can have all kinds of things to do.
She’s also started to say “I love you” and make kissing noises when you say “Give kisses?” From a bird who was treated like crap by people who thought it was funny to teach her to swear and watch her fall off her perch when they blew pot smoke in her face, she’s come quite a long way.
I’m so happy I could bust!
