The Fab Faux - Beatles tribute band

Has anyone seen these guys live? They were started by Will Lee (of David Letterman fame) and perform amazing renditions of Beatles songs.

I’m considering going to a performance where they will be playing Abbey Road in its entirety.

Part II

Part III

That. Is. Awesome.

[Not sure about the name though!]

I was expecting it to be on Rock Band instruments or something, since this is the Game Room.

Still, neat.

I have no idea why I posted this in the game room.

Mods - please be so kind as to escort me elsewhere.

One thing that always strikes me as so very, very (probably irrationally) wrong is when a Beatles “recreation” band has a righty bassist.

So I can’t decide if it’s better or worse that these guys have a righty bassist and a lefty guitarist.

Done.

I haven’t seen 'em but really want to. Some of my muso friends have seen them a few times and love them.

I can live with a RH bassist if they can make the music sound that good.

I actually heard them about 5 years ago on Howard Stern’s show, doing a perfect re-creation of “I Am The Walrus” live on the radio.

I enjoyed it, and I was very impressed by the “Abbey Road” performance… but even though I liked both performances, there’s still a little voice in the back of my head asking “What’s the point?” Don’t I already have the “Abbey Road” CD? Couldn’t I play that ANY time, if I wanted to hear a note-for-note recreation of that album?

The Fab Faux are probably the most brilliant cover band I’ve ever heard… but in the end, they’re still just a Beatle cover band. Why would I pay to see THEM perform? Why not just pop “Hard Day’s Night” or “Help!" into my DVD player and see the real thing?

I prefer the “A Walk Down Abbey Road” project that Todd Rundgren, Alan Parsons, John Entwhistle, Ann Wilson and David Pack did a few years back. Not quite as “accurate” but more heartfelt.

Ha!

I’ve seen the Fab Faux about seven times live now, and they’re totally awesome every time. “why would I pay to see them?” Because a live concert is very different from popping in a dvd. I absolutely recommend seeing the live performance of abbey road. Unfortunately the real beatles never played abbey road in concert, and this is the closest anyone will ever come to actually seeing that.

what’s great about the fab faux is that they don’t “dress up” like the beatles. It’s not beatlemania. It’s about the music. If the righty bassist bothered you, then the fact that there are FIVE members in the band must’ve really driven you nuts. The bottom line is that they do an awesome job performing this great music.

This is just amazing! I get chills listening to it, especially the strings and brass during “Golden Slumbers.” I rather like that they’re not really imitating the Beatles’ voices – they’re not doing impressions of the Beatles, like tribute bands such as Rain (which are enjoyable in their own way). The vocals do blend marvelously, though. Solid musicianship all the way through. Plus they all look so happy! They must know how awesome this experiment is.

I have to agree that there’s a big difference in seeing them in concert vs. listening to Abbey Road – obviously if you want to hear the Beatles, you’d listen to the CD. The fun here is seeing the steps taken to reproduce this unique studio accomplishment, live. It’s a wholly different experience… and I’d imagine well worth the ticket price.

Actually, the fact that they’re not trying to be a recreation was why I ended up not having a problem with any of it.

On the flip side, I look at Rain and I just think “Gaaa! It’s wrong! It just looks all WRONG!”

I saw them a couple of years ago: definitely worth the ticket price! They sounded amazing, and it was also pretty fun to be around so many other Beatles fans.

I think they’re musically flawless, but the vocals take me right out of the moment.

Viewing these clips, I now realize how under appreciated Ringo was.

The drumming is amazing, no?

I had the exact same thought. I’ve been more attuned to drumming lately - particularly Ringo’s - and the Fab Faux’s drummer really brought it. Abbey Road is where Ringo really shined. (shone?)

You think that’s bad? The Dallas Beatle’s cover band is called Hard Night’s Day.
