For the first time in a while we’re able to file early, right now in fact, but the US government and all their stupid things, their 1040’s are not ready for release??

The IRS is kind of distracted at the moment. They’re scrambling to implement the 2018 tax rejiggering and are just now releasing 2018 tax withholding guidance. That’s the hair-on-fire emergency they have to deal with now, so getting the 2017 filing period under way is probably the next panic they have to deal with. And they’re under-budgeted, under-staffed, and have no confirmed Commissioner (only an “Acting” Commissioner).
This is going to be a turbulent tax season.
