Conch is when something gets an overwhelming number of answers. It comes from a feud where a question was “Name a type of shell” and pretty much everyone said “conch,” whereas a slightly greater variety might have been expected. So, everyone saying “Tommy” is a conch. Although not too unexpected. The only other one I can think of right off the top of my head is “Spring Awakening” and I wasn’t sure how many others would choose that, so I went with “Tommy.”

Actually I thought it came from when someone tried to identify an answer in a previous feud as being most likely and wanted to say 'This one is the cinch" but instead typed “conch”.
Went back and forth between Hairspray and Grease, but wasn’t Grease a musical first, then a movie? I guess that doesn’t matter if people answer Grease and Grease popped into my head first. Toughie.
I know exactly ONE Tony nominee this year, only because I have a total thing about Xanadu and just recently read an article about the musical.

And from my answer to #1, you can tell how long it’s been since I’ve seen a Broadway show!

Fret none. I almost put John Barrymore (although it says nothing about me seeing a Broadway show during his heyday ).
#2 Hey, it didn’t have to be a musical star, and I don’t know many contemporary female performers. Dang
#7 One of my favorite movies. I haven’t ever seen it on stage. William Daniels IS John Adams!
#10 The only reason I know ANY nominee this year is because last Friday I was babysitting my nephews, and read a copy of their “Entertainment” magazine, and there was a mention of this show. I remember how dreadful the movie was.
#4 I am so going to fall in rank, partly due to this question!

But the soundtrack (to the movie) is great!
(Full disclosure: I paid to see Xanadu in the theater TWICE when it came out – back when seeing a movie twice was a big thing (at least for me, as a kid in a family without a lot of disposable income), and you had to do so in the theater because VCRs weren’t really common yet. But I was a 14-year-old girl, their target demographic! I know better now . . .)
