The final Seinfeld show - Did it leave a bad taste in your mouth?

It was a program that had unlikable and selfish characters as stars. The last show made it clear they were criminally unlikable and selfish. They kind of got what was coming to them. I liked it.
Oddly their protagonists were as flawed as they were. The soup nazi was a jerk. Jerry actually tried to help the guy with the restaurant. The are they real girl was sleeping with Jerry’s lawyer. etc.

That would have been great.

And he gave him good advice, too, because Pakistani food is delicious. If the guy couldn’t sell it, maybe he needed a better cook, or better advertising.

Yes, you’ve verbalized a feeling I had about it but never consciously spelled out.

I didn’t like the final show at all. It was almost an insult to the people who watched it.

I’ve posted this before, I’ll post it again-

I thought the last ep was fine except this should have been the final scene:

The gang is judged guilty but before sentenced can be pronounced…

Newman, who has been watching all this with glee & stuffing chips in his face, laughs so hard he starts seriously choking.

Kramer thinks “My friend’s choking! I need to help him!”, runs to Newman’s aid.

George thinks “Hey, if I help Newman, the judge might go easy on me!”, runs to Newman’s aid.

Elaine thinks “I’ve… always loved Newman!”, runs to Newman’s aid.

Jerry looks askance at all this and mutters to himself “Aw, let the fat bastard choke.”

The writers just decided to trot back all the memorable characters from the show…but the premise was thin. There were episodes where they had moral dilemmas so I didn’t buy that they would do nothing for that fat guy.

I don’t buy that they would mix men and women in a jail cell, or that all the friends would be in the same cell—same facility, maybe, two in a cell maybe, but not all four in one cell.

Naming the judge Arthur Van De Lay was a nice touch, though.

It certainly wasn’t in the class of Newhart.

The whole thing was absolutely ridiculous. It was a clip show and that is a STUPID way to end a series. Especially when a clip show preceded it as well.

What Seinfeld and the gang were jailed NOT given bail. Wouldn’t have happened. No one ever seemed to make the obvious connection that Kramer GOT SOLID evidence by tape recording the whole robbery. This was a HELP to the robbed man not hurting him.

Seinfeld was capable of writing a better show and this was insulting to the audience. They would’ve been better off NOT having a finale and just going out with a regular episode.

The characters of Seinfeld were self absorbed, but who isn’t. It’s not like they were particularly mean spirited about it. So Jerry broke up with women for trivial reasons, what it’s supposed to be better he married someone he didn’t like? So George didn’t massively grieve a woman he didn’t love?

The finale portrayed these characters as cold hearted individuals always on the take for their own fun and betterment. In reality they were just characters that found themselves to be the focus of their own world, like eveyone else does

I liked the final episode. It served to remind me that these characters, although funny, are selfish and refuse to learn from their mistakes. I enjoyed that it was a clip show without showing actual clips. What I object to is Elaine admission of her love for Jerry during the plane’s plunge has been edited out in reruns.

I thought it was appalling and a sadly unfunny way to go out.

It’s horrible & inconsistent with the rest of the series. Bad taste to say the least. Totally fell flat. So much for “about nothing.”

That said, I can see where it came from. The characters were so callous & cruel to George’s fiancée at the end. The finale was a kind of repudiation & penance.
