Well, we should have a good draft, so maybe we can pick up another running back.
That was exactly my thought as I was watching the game yesterday.
Now what to do about a coach who can’t see the obvious right in front of his face?
Damn! We are kicking some serious ASS tonight!
(And here’s hoping someone brews up some strong hot coffee back in the locker room for after the game-it’s damned COLD tonight!)
I just want to say for the record that I went to college with John Kuhn.

For what it’s worth, this game is indicative that Pittsburgh should still be considered a top-flight team in spite of their record. They’ve been in pretty much every game, with the noteworthy exception of the Baltimore debacle. They’ve just beaten themselves with mistakes all year. Oh well. Too little, too late. Or maybe not. You never can tell. Any Given Sunday and all that.
Agreed. Santonio Holmes fumbled away a good portion of our games. But we must credit Big Ben as well.
I am rather peeved at the NFL - they have position the games so that I cannot view them several times this year, Including last week’s game not being shown locally and this week’s only being aired on the NFL channel - and at night. Even if I would be willing to pay for the NFL channel, their constant night games makes it tough for me to watch most of the game, as I have an early start in the morning.
Are you in a local market for the Steelers? If so, any Steelers game on NFL Network will also be carried by a broadcast station.
For example, the NY area cable system is Cablevision, which does not carry NFL Network. The week 17 Giants game on NFL Network will also be broadcast on My9 in the NY area, which is the channel that used to carry UPN before it merged with the WB. They also do this for ESPN MNF games this season as well as all ESPN SNF games in previous seasons.
All NFL games have always been broadcast on free over-the-air networks in all home markets, with the exception of blackout rules due to low attendance.
Ok…here is the convoluted situation we must root for now:
We must win out to go 9-7(at Carolina, Balt, at Cinci.)
There are 5 teams at 7-5 currently.
Jax (Indy, @Tenn, NE, @KC) must lose 3
Cinci (Oak, @ Indy, @Denver, Pitt) must lose 3
Denver (@SD, @Ariz, Cin, SF) must lose 3, or possibly 2
KC (Balt, @SD, @Oak, Jax) must lose 2
NYJ (Buf, @Minn, @Mia, Oak) must lose 3
Of these, we lose the tiebreaker with Jax and Denver heads up, so those teams need to finish 8-8 or worse(with one exception). We lose to Cinci if we tie at 9-7, due to that means Cinci has a 7-5 AFC record vs our 6-6(we would tie on head to head and division record) Therefore, Cinci, Jax, Denver, must finish 1-3 over their last 4 games.
There is one way we can beat Denver if we both have 9-7 records…We need SD to beat both KC and Denver, and then for KC to beat Oak, and THEN, if KC, DEN, and PITT finishes 9-7, KC wins the division tie break over Denver, but we would then go ahead of KC because we won head to head.
note-X means that game doesnt matter
Jax–could easily lose all 4 games. This week is huge…if they lay an egg at home against Indy, going on the road to a bitter rival playing inspired football, and THEN getting NE…Hopefully they lose all 3, and we are in the position of being able to root for them to beat KC on the last week if we need another KC loss…It’s very feasible the Jags go 1-3. Need L,L,L, and who knows for the last week.
Cincinatti-If we assume we beat them, then we need them to lose 2 games and win one…the problem is that they really need to beat Denver for us, so we have no margin for error here…we really need a miracle by Oak. this weekend…if we get in a position where we have to root for Denver to knock off Cinci for us, then the above scenario where we need KC to tie Denver becomes much more imperative Need X,L,L,L
Denver-We need them to lose to SD (feasible), then @ Ariz(unlikely, but maybe the rookie QB lays an egg). Our dream scenario is that Denver and Cinci lose both games the next two weeks, then we can root for Denver to lose to Cinci, then we can take out Cinci. We need L,L,L,X
KC-We really really really need them to finish 9-7…specifially, they MUST lose to Baltimore, then at least win 1 of their division games, which would mean they clinch the tie break vs Denver in the event of a 9-7 tie. Then we can root for them to knock Jax out for us if necessary. If they happen to sweep SD and Oak, then we need Jax to knock them off, which may put Jax in ahead of us, so the perfect situation is L,L,W,W
NYJ-I could see them winning all 4 games or losing all 4…really none of their games impact us, except if they could go W,L,L,L it would take Buffalo out of the picture, and we hold the tie break against Miami so they can’t catch us anyway.
so right now, SD and Indy are our favorite teams, and whether or not we need KC to win or lose will change from week to week (and probably from quarter to quarter depending on what other teams are doing)
Any admirable amount of work put into a silly as hell idea sir.
I’m not Khadaji, but I can answer this question.
When the NFL carved up the country for TV rights, it decided that the Harrisburg-Lebanon-Carlisle TV market should show Ravens games. This is based on the fact that Baltimore is closer than either Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, but the league did not take into account that there is a state border between Harrisburg and Baltimore and that people in Pennsylvania generally support Pennsylvania teams.
Our local CBS affiliate carries some Steelers games, but is inviting problems from the NFL to do so. From what I’ve read of this particular kerfluffle, ISTM that the station wants the opportunity to explain to the league that Central Pennsylvania does not want the Ravens. Either that, or the league basically backed off and won’t sanction the station for showing Pittsburgh games.

Yeah, I remember hearing about this. Gregg Easterbrook complains a lot about the NFL broadcast rules–a common refrain is that Tehran gets better NFL games than Washington, DC. From the latest TMQ
Just leaned one other scenario…
Baltimore loses out, Cinci loses out, we win out, then we WIN THE DIVISION…it’s amazing to me that this is still possible.
This is THE major reason that I despise Baltimore. I could watch the Steelers every week until Baltimore showed up, and then I had to watch the fucking Ratbirds or go to a bar. This in spite of the fact that my tax dollars went to building Heinz Field, not the Big POS in Baltimore. WHP 21 went to the mat for us and showed the games but was told to cease and desist by the NFL. It was a big controversy that is still ongoing. last week they didn’t show the game either. Here is a quick and dirty analysis of the whole situation.
You know, I don’t care that Baltimore has a team. I’m happy for them. But I’ll be goddamned if I’m going to miss the Steelers to root for a team in a different state that had no connection to me or my area except that we hated them when they were the Browns too.
From your linked article:
Bolding mine.
Well, apparently some of them do.
Until Baltimore got their team I didn’t have to worry about it. It’s not the Ravens’ fault that the NFL is so prickish about it, but it is their fault that they are there, and that’s quite enough for me.
OK, I came in late because I was on an overnight trip last night. We’re up by 7, hooray! But do we look good?
Go Steelers!
Kudos to Holmes! I’ve been one of his loudest detractors, but one must give credit where it is due, that second effort was all him and got another TD.
OK, I spoke too soon, I didn’t know the red flag had been thrown. It was a good effort anyway.
Oh dear sweet zombie Jesus, 'tis a good day to be a Steelers fan.
Wow! Holmes went from goat to hero. I was just about to roast him for that dropped punt, then they call it back and he returns it for a touchdown.
I’m glad he scored, but I still think they should take him off special teams.
