The first interstellar spacecraft

Assume that the U.S. government has just announced that all technical problems regarding interstellar travel have been solved, and that planning for the first interstellar spacecraft is proceeding.

What should that craft be named?

I would pick USS Enterprise.

USS Endeavour

HMS Endeavour

We did this already- Pioneer Ten.

USS Titanic. If the mission succeeds, it will be redemption. If it fails, we all kind of knew it would anyway.

Crazy Eddie.

Mayflower II

USS Albert II

Tim

uSS Jalado

That’s slang for impossible, as in ain’t gonna happen.

It would take anywhere from 19,000 to 80,000 yrs, depending on technology used. And that’s just to get the our closet star group, the Centauri trio. As far as the first one to remotely have a chance to support life, fahgetta bout it.

USS Thomas Jefferson. So it would be the Jefferson Starship.

That’s pretty slick.

What would it be built on?

New Frontiers

Watch out for Lazarus!

Kon-Tiki

你好*

*Ni Hao, or “Hello” in Chinese.

USS Here Comes Honey Boo Boo

This.

USS Buzz Lightyear

To Infinity and Beyond . . .

Well, it would be an experimental craft, so it would get an X designation. Probably

Star Explorer X-Probe one
