The first SDMB Thread

What was the first SDMB thread? Can someone link me to it? I tried doing a search but nothing usefull came up.

Well, one would suppose this would be it:

But it isn’t. For some reason the search feature isn’t working for me at the moment, but I would suggest looking for threads by Ed Zotti in ATMB. I remember once hearing a reference to a thread where he announced the opening of the board. Also, keep in mind that there was the old AOL board before this one.

I suspect it’s lost and gone forever, as they did some pruning back in UBB time. Thread ID’s in the low 300s appear to be the oldest (try ~337 or 338).

This seems to be the first thread in ATMB. It’s Ed welcoming people to the forum and is dated March 11, 1999. ATMB survived the pruning intact due to its small size I believe.

I can beat that one by all of 13 minutes. I found Ed Zotti’s welcoming thread to “Comments on Cecil’s Columns”. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=7

These are actually pretty funny. It’s neat to see Ed and CKDextHavn listed as guests, with no post count.

Well, this is the first thread done in true SDMB spirit, and it’s but a day later.

Nyah.

Please keep in mind the board software currently in use is not what we started out with, so there’s bound to be some discrepancies in count and etc.

We’ve also had software crashes and some manual additions and deletions over time, so that would also throw off any sort of counter.

Also remember that anything used on this site has had some inside testing before it’s made public, so anything from our earliest days would tend to reflect that.
