The Flash Season 6

I think Iris is writing the article more like an obituary, the bulk of which are in fact written in advance of their subjects’ demise and only updated when required. It also gives us, the viewing audience, the opportunity to know what Iris since the cliffhanger for the Crisis, before it breaks for the winter, is guaranteed to be the Flash disappearing, i.e.,“FLASH MISSING - VANISHES IN CRISIS”.

I wonder if they’ll use Barry’s zombification to rules-lawyer his continued existence if/as the story goes forward. Something like he “technically” died when he was taken over, but something in the experience was integral to averting the Crisis. Then he “gets better” and after a convenient absence to process the trauma, he’s back to business as usual.

Either that or the classic “I said The Flash must die, but I never said which Flash.”

He actually said, “Flash must die.” Not THE Flash.

  1. A few episodes back, there was some plot line about how there was a dark matter McGuffin that could protect Barry from antimatter annihilation, so perhaps non-Mohinder has a notion that his power-set combined with Barry could do the same for the whole universe

  2. Yeah - great stuff there. Reminiscent of when ST:TNG went for the horror-tropes.

  3. She won’t be the same anyway, since she’ll have had a father who disappeared 5 years earlier than the father of the Nora who came back in time last season.

THE EPIC CONCLUSION OF THE TWO-PART MID-SEASON FINALE - With The Flash battling Bloodwork (guest star Sendhil Ramamurthy), Iris and Cisco fight to help Barry take control before he’s lost to Ramsey’s influence. Meanwhile, the rest of Team Flash fight to reclaim Central City from Bloodwork’s growing army.

Cisco took a page out of Star Trek by pulling magic tech out of his butt. In the previous episode, Velocity-X. In this episode, a force field around S.T.A.R. Labs and a photon gun to work against Bloodwork. Isn’t the last just called a flashlight? Its destruction at least gave Allegra a chance to shine.

I thought at first that the villain was being as stupid as the heroes. Why let Team Flash go without infecting them? It turned out that Ramsey was being stupid but in another way and for once Barry was being smart. Working against Bloodwork from the inside and then dropping hints to Team Flash about what he was doing was probably the smartest thing Barry’s ever done. So now Bloodwork is locked up in the chamber that used to contain Chester and sent off to A.R.G.U.S. courtesy of Lyla. She must have found some time while working on Lian Yu.

We’ve had a chance to see Frost change into Caitlin and back again several times. Caitlin seems physically smaller than Frost, even though only differences are a wig and a makeup job. I’ll put it down to good acting by Danielle Panabaker.

Nash Wells has finally broken though to the Monitor’s inner sanctum. What do those seven symbols mean? Seven paragons?

See you in the Crisis!

Legends of Tomorrow will be premiering tonight, after Arrow. Next week is the Arrow series finale, which will be followed by some sort of series retrospective. So the Scarlet Speedster won’t be coming back until February 4.

How about that cameo, huh?

LIFE AFTER THE CRISIS - After The Citizen prints an explosive story, Iris’s life is threatened. Refusing to hide from those that are attacking her, Iris sets out to expose a dangerous organization. Meanwhile, Barry must face the consequences of the Crisis and fulfill Oliver Queen’s wish for him.

New Earth, new opening titles. Also new Jitters. The common criminals are still pretty stupid though. Why would you do a simple holdup, on a coffee shop no less, when you know the Flash is running around protecting the city?

I was hoping to get more information about the new post-Crisis Earth Prime, but it’s nothing we couldn’t already figure out in the context of other shows. Cisco was kind enough to draw map though. Star City and National City are on the West Coast. Metropolis and Freeland are on the East Coast. Gotham City is on the Great Lakes. The map didn’t show Central City for some reason, but presumably it’s in the middle of everything. They are also unaware of the new multiverse. As far as they know, there’s only one, integrated universe.

Cisco also figured out that new metavillains are running around, formerly of the old multiverse, and there could be new copies of previously encountered metavillains. Case in point was the meta assassin Kimiyo Hoshi, the new Doctor Light, who is different from the previous Doctor Light who was an Earth-2 doppelganger of Barry’s old girlfriend Linda Park. In the comics, Kimiyo Hoshi first appeared as Doctor Light in Crisis on Infinite Earths who defended Superman as they battled the Anti-Monitor in the antimatter universe. She was there to witness the death of Supergirl. She’s also different from the villainous male Doctor Light (a version of whom appeared on Titans).

We also appear to be getting a new Mirror Master, Eva McCulloch (rather than Evan McColloch in the comics), different than the Sam Scudder version that previously appeared.

It was great to see Team Citizen out and about, investigating important matters. I think they’ve done more reporterly things this half season than Kara ever did in all her previous seasons. Great sequence with Iris putting together all the clues. But she probably shouldn’t go sneaking off to do some investigating without at least informing someone where she’s going.

I’m glad they addressed the death of Harry Wells. I was worried that was going to go unremarked.

This was one of the better episodes of this season. I hope they do a good job with Mirror Master. Maybe we’ll get a new Rogues Gallery? That would be awesome. Probably wishful thinking.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR - Barry and Iris plan a romantic dinner for Valentine’s Day but their evening is interrupted by an old foe - Amunet (guest star Katee Sackhoff). Meanwhile, Frost gets into the holiday spirit and attempts to help Allegra (guest star Kayla Compton) reconnect with an old love.

That has to be the worst episode of the Flash ever. Also Katee Sackhoff gets worst every time I see her. Her “acting” is the equivalent of nails on the chalkboard.

Are they saving money for a big episode? That felt like the low budget show to save up for an expensive one.

They probably blew the budget on Crisis. Plus Bloodwork’s effects in the front half of the season couldn’t have been cheap.

I actually like Katee Sackhoff’s scenery chewing as Amunet Black. Her relationship with Goldface relationship was so ridiculously over the top. It was great!

I was worried that we were going to get mopey Barry again, what with his post-Crisis depression. Fortunately Papa Joe put him back on track. Unfortunately he was interacting with mirror Iris this whole time. I hope that doesn’t interfere with character growth for Barry and Iris, since I like where both characters, especially Iris, and their relationship are going.

Frost + Allegra is an odd combination. What makes Frost think she can give lessons in love? Especially since all her advice ultimately comes from Ralph.

I yelled, “Get a lair!” to Amunet Black and Goldface at the end.

The new Mirror Master is an interesting idea. The previous one on Earth-One was a meta, but this one seems to have at least started with tech. (Harry Wells had said there was an Earth-Two Mirror Master who was based on tech.)

While I won’t praise the episode, I love Sackhoff’s Amunet Black. She’s just so over-the-top campy fun, it’s hilarious. Such a change of pace from everything else I’ve seen her in.

I was really hoping that she was going to drop that accent — for the length of the truthtelling scene, but only for the length of the truthtelling scene, after which she’d, y’know, be right back at work.

Agreed. It’s almost like she’s trying for a Batman 1966 Joker performance.

WHEN RALPH MET SUE - After months of searching for Sue Dearbon (guest star Natalie Dreyfuss), Ralph gets a lead on her whereabouts and finally comes face to face with his missing client. However, Sue refuses to return home to her family, and instead, takes Ralph on a daring adventure. Iris faces a new challenge while Barry considers a potentially dangerous request from a trusted source.
