Mr VOW has been plagued with increasing back pain. He had scans done, and we’ve been waiting to hear back from the doctor. It’s been harder and harder for him to stand and get his legs to support him. He started with a cane and then graduated with a walker.
He finally had trouble going from the bedroom to the bathroom.
A dismal day yesterday, culminarting in two falls. The first one he smacked his forehead on the ceramic tile floor. In trying to get up from that fall, he fell backwards, slamming the back of his head on the same tile floor. That collision drew blood.
911 was called, and he was transported to the ER. Because of the falls with head impact, the paramedics put him in a hard collar.
The ER was slammed. Many things were checked, but it took a long, long time because of all of the people. The Daughter brought me home, then went back to sit with her dad. They still don’t know what the problem is. Two CATscans show no intercranial bleeding, and no fractures. They have been monitoring his implanted defibrillator. Last word, he’s still in a bay in the ER. He’s been admitted to the hospital, but there isn’t a bed available yet.
Good news: his COVID is much much better. He’s had no breathing difficulties.
Wednesday (the 21st) was his 75th birthday. I really do want to keep him around a while longer.
I hope y’all get him in a actual hospital bed and the care he needs.
Take care of yourself too. I know you’ve been sick.
You’ll be no good to anyone if you get down.
No falls in the future, please!!
For anyone.
Keep us posted.
My greatest sympathies for Mr. VOW, and you as well. Every time I hear of someone’s back pain my own back twinges. His is so much worse right now. I hope things turn better for him.
VOW, so sorry to read about Mr. VOW’s health issues.
I can certainly commiserate with you.
Here’s hoping Mr. VOW’s in a hospital bed and that the Docs are figuring out what is causing his legs to betray him and can prescribe something that will help.
I’ve been texting this AM with Mr VOW. He actually has been standing for brief periods, under supervision. Of course, his Y-chromosome thinks this means he is “cured.” He did confess that he has an alarm on his bed; if he so much as even thinks of getting up, an alarm will sound and the National Guard or equivalent shows up to shove him back in bed with an obligatory scolding.
Still no word on What or Why this happened.
The Daughter is waiting for a call from the dr for answrs to those questions and others.
Physical Therapy has called The Daughter about starting PT in the home beginning Monday, and ordering a wheelchair for him.
Mr VOW is pleased that he is in a private room. No, he’s not some VIP. He’s COVID-positive, and he’s quarantined. Staff and visitors have to don protective clothing to enter his room.
Damn Covid! I’m so sorry you guys have been dealing with this. Hospitals are not fun for the person in there or the family, so it’s good he’s at home. May the healing continue post haste.
My sister came down with autoimmune encephalitis and needed such an alarm for a while because she kept forgetting that she wasn’t supposed to get out of bed without assistance, and also forgetting that this was because she’d been falling over.
They finally got a correct diagnosis, and she’s much better now. I hope you will also soon get a correct diagnois for Mr. VOW, and that he also will soon be much better.
– whoops I missed the post that says that he’s home already and that (if I understand you right) the diagnosis is covid!
