Are you kidding? That stuff is some of the best damn tobacco I ever smoked. It was my regular smoking substance at one point.
The worst smokes I ever had were some obscure brand I picked up at Cigarettes Cheaper. I don’t remember their name, but they had an Indian on the front of the box (and they weren’t American Spirits). I think smoking poison ivy would have been less harsh on my respiratory system.
Most third world (latin american) smokes are pretty nasty. I was a Pall Mall unfiltered smoker when I was travelling. When I lived in Ecuador, I smoked some variant of viceroys – unfiltered and very tary. The best unfiltereds I found in Bolivia and I do not recall the name. There was another Noxious Belizian unfiltered.
They are all probably illegal to import into the US
Friendly aside here: if you go back and read my post, it says that I was naming six kinds of tobacco that I personally would not smoke again because I didn’t like them. I didn’t say that you couldn’t, or shouldn’t like Drum. So, no, I was not kidding.
From the inside of an Export A package: “a chacun a son gout.”
I am from India and I must say that there are countless number of beedi smokers here.(I am not one of them though).Although we dont get the same kind as you people.IIRC the beedis sold abroad are the export kind and not for domestic sales. The local ones are smaller, stronger, unflavored and smell vile.
I must also add that beedi smokers are usually from the poorer sections because a bundle of 20 beedis costs like 10 cents.
I worked on the docks for a couple of years and during that time I bought cigarettes and vodka from Russian fishermen. There I discovered Golden American - *“Made in Western Europe”,*which I believe means somewhere in western Czech (sp?) republic. To this day my lungs twitch with disgust and my mind recoils in horror at the mere remembrance of my encounter with those dark, foul tasting sticks - made with a fair understanding of eastern-European nicotine addiction and a lot of hatred for Mankind. The worst cigarettes I have ever known, and I’ve tried a lot of strange tobacco in my time.
At one time smoked something from India called “bidis.” They were wrapped in a leaf and tied, and they were something other than tobacco. Or you could go to Spain and smoke Fortuna’s Black Tobacco cigarettes or Bisontes Negros. That black tobacco that the Euros love is like smoking rusty razor blades.
