Have you seen them? They’re for the network’s sports trivia game show, “Sports Geniuses.”
The tag-line for each is, “Don’t you wish every question was a sports question?” and they are laugh-out-loud hilarious.
In one, an adult guy is in his bedroom getting dressed, pants on; shirt off. He notices his wife’s bra on the bed and because no one else is around, tries it on.
He’s admiring himself in the mirror when his wife barges in the door, looks at him quizzically and says,
“Ed? … Who’s the NBA’s all-time leader in blocked shots?”
Then the tag-line comes up.
The other one that I like even better, a younger guy is laying on the couch, apparently watching TV, with no shirt on. A cat jumps up on him and starts licking his nipple incessantly. Apparently digging it, he just lets the cat do it. Then you hear his significant other above the couch looking down at him. He looks up at her, startled.
“Joel?” she says. (Pause) “What American NHL team has won the most Stanley Cups?” Then tag-line.
Those recent Reebok ads are great, but these are even better. Too funny.
And perhaps of all time…the series about that game chip, where it looked like some airy-fairy save-the-world through technology crap, and then suddenly makes a left turn into insanity, if anyone remembers them… they were absolutely hilarious.
I like the Discovery Channel ads they’re running right now; they’re made to look amateurish, and are so stupid they’re funny. “Ahhhhh! The atmosphere!” is now a joke around our house.
I liked the Monday Night Football commercial that aired last week, where the old guy in the hospital flatlines. The doctor puts a pair of headphones on the guy and we hear the MNF music and the guy revives. I don’t know why, but I thought that was pretty funny. Maybe it’s because that music has roughly the same effect on me.
Oooh that reminds me of the “don’t bonk” ad for Powerbar. The doctor falls asleep during surgery and kills “another” patient, its kinda funny 'cause the Doc and nurse are only mildly disappointed
I’ve only seen it once, but it’s the guy from the “Whassssssup!” commercials. He’s at a Sushi bar and the waiter brings him wasabe and says in cheesy Japanese guy voice, “wasabe.” and the Whassup guy says, “Wassssssabe!” and the waiter says, “Wasabe!” and they go back and forth, eventually ending up with all the chefs and everybody going “Wasssssabe!”
It totally cracked me up when I saw it. I wish it would be on again because nobody I know has ever seen it!
Did anybody hear those radio commercials a few years ago for Cornuts? The line was “bust a nut,” and it was suggested by the voice-over guy that you should do it at home, at school, when no one’s looking, etc. Those ads were great.
That first Rice Krispies Treats thing, where the guy’s arm came off in the subway, was the funniest damn thing I’ve seen in a long time. (I don’t really think the new “playmate” one is funny, though). I also get a big kick out of those ESPN ads (at least I think it’s ESPN) with the obscure sports events from all over the world, and the tag line about “sports that matter to you” or some such thing…
Ack! You beat me to it. My husband and I greet each other now by saying “Hello Mosquito.” “Hello Mosquito.” Sometimes, if one of us is feeling frisky, we’ll say “Hello Partially Eaten Fish.”
You know, a certain poster recently started a thread just like this one, and even mentioned http://www.adcritic.com, but the thread plummeted into the abyss with only about 3 replies…
In that thread, I…I mean, this certain poster mentioned their favorite commerical was the new one for Charmin, with the bear pooping in the woods.
YUK! I saw that bear pooping one this morning and almost barfed! EWWWW! lol…the ones I really like are the current series of Jack in the Box ones where Jack is in Italy. It’s so hilarious to see him riding around on a Vespa scooter and stuff. The most recent one shows him throwing a fat wad of bills into a fountain full of pennies. He shrugs and says, “Don’t worry, that was about a buck.”
I thought of another funny one…it’s for the WebTV with replay capabilities. A guy is having a his friends over for a football game and leaves the room to get an ice bucket for his WINE. He misses a great play and starts yelling at Keshawn Johnson (?) who yells back at him “Hey man, you didn’t even SEE the play! Why don’t WebTV with instant replay so you won’t miss anything while you’re having your little wine and cheese party! BON APPETIT!!!” There’s another one with a really stupid girl watching Jeopardy and Alex Trebek disses her, but for some reason the football one is more hilarious.
The one with the fat guy in the backyard pool that makes a “girl” out of rice krispie treats? It’s downright creepy. I was watching something last night that showed that one twice during each break.
