Admit it, some commercials are funny! Lately the ones that crack me up are:
The Geico commercial where the gecko does “the robot” to attract more people to their internet site–the gecko rocks!!
The new “Malibu” rum drink commercials where they show how Jamaicans would handle things like traffic jams and customer service at the fruit stand. The people in the commercial are so cute!! And when the bus driver says “You give me road rage!” in his rasta accent I about fall out of the chair every time.
I’m probably the only person on the planet that thinks some of the Geico commercials are funny. My two favorite:
The teleporter they use to get claims adjusters to clients quickly. It shows a couple of scenes with the poor guy showing up the most inappropriate places (I think one guy showed up in the middle of a robbery  and of course one guy shows up while a woman is taking a shower )
The other is the ‘Tiny House’ reality spoof, which looked like a REAL SHOW causing me to laugh my ass off. “I JUST WANNA MAKE AN OMLET!”
Hey, I like the Geico ads. I haven’t seen the one with the teleporting claims adjuster. That one sounds good.
I like the one that’s a play on the Old Navy ads. The young, hip kids are in the obviously fake woods romping around in their fleecewear, and one says, “Camping is fun! But not as much fun as saving money with Geico!”
I like most of the Geico commercials, too… Mr. Stasaeon cracks up at the old “Jiggy Fly” one every time.
My personal favourite commercials are the ones by Jack in the Box… it seems many people either love them or hate them. I love them. The recent-ish French one killed me… but since I’m French Canadian, I got a lot of people here asking me if I “loved” it, or asking me if I “get” it, or saying “that must be your favourite, right?”… after a while I just say “ha… ha yeah. yeah I loved it. Ha. Yes. I’m French. Very funny. You’re very clever for picking up on that.” (I don’t even speak much French, truth be told, but the accent slips through, anyway - I’m sure there are other Canadians who know what I’m talking about!)
I like the newer “secret code” one, though. “Sweetcheeks banana muffin hottub!” whack “Freak.”
I saw a funny one on ESPN, though I had the sound muted for most of it. It featured Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2 and a Storm Trooper hanging around the ESPN HQ. I don’t know why. If not for the fact that I saw it with almost a dozen people, I’d swear I dreamed it.
My current favorite commercial is actually for Red Bull (a product that I completely detest). A guy is walking along, and a bird flies overhead and plops on the guy. After wiping himself off, the guy pulls a Red Bull out of his briefcase and drinks it. He sprouts wings, flies over the bird, and unzips his pants . . .
I, too, enjoy the GEICO commercials. One of my favorite was when they visited the house with the cats, all stalking the Gecko. Then you saw him later in bandages.
“This is NOT awesome!” That ad kills me. But I want to see the show!
I ignore most ads but the Geico ads are the ones I will always stop for. Whatever they’ve paid their ad agency (anyone know who it is? Ogilvy and Mather?) it’s been worth it.
There’s an ad for TGI Friday’s that shows a husband out iwth his friends, then he looks over and sees his wife. He goes over to her all perturbed and asks where their kids are, and she says that her mom has them. Then they both look across the restaurant, and there’s the kids and grandma. The ad itself is rather dumb, but the ridiculous pouty look on the husband’s face when he says “Who’s watching the kids?!” as if his wife is a complete lunatic who can’t be trusted to find a proper babysitter and darnit, it’s his night out with his friends, not hers, waaaaaaaah is worth the inanity of the message.
I just saw one last night that cracked me up. It’s for Honda, but it’s spoofing a dog show, with trainers running around the floor with various “breeds” of Honda. Very clever.
They run 2 per episode of “Pardon the Interruption” and I watch PTI like 4 times per week.
And, there’s only like 3 different ones, but they still get me giggling everytime. The guys just move and talk so funny.
The next time you see the beach one, watch the guy in the blue suit adjust his shorts when he stands up. A funny detail. He just pulls down on them like they’re bunched up, but the suit doesn’t change a bit.
I like the new commercial with Kelly Ripa (I know, I know. . . ) and Regis Philbin for 7-up plus. Kelly drinks a glass (?) of it at a playground, and another mother asks if it’s any good. Kelly replies that it’s great and all her kids love it. Especially her oldest. We then see Regis on one of those playground spring horses rocking back and forth. She tells him to come over, he asks if he can play longer, she then calls him by his full name “Regis Francis Philbin!” and he screams “PLEASE!!!”
It’s all in the delivery.
I don’t remember the brand of crunchy cereal being advertised, but I love the commercial where manager man walks up to Cereal Eeating Guy’s cubicle and says “Didn’t I fire you yesterday? Didn’t I fire you…every day?” Cut to CEG nodding as he’s eating his cereal, not hearing a thing with the crunching going on in his head. Manager: “I want you out” and gives a slight thumb toward the exit, which CEG returns as a happy thumbs up.
I just love the double take Manager gives at the end. I want that guy in more commercials.
Man, I hate that guy. He sounds like he very nearly says “What the hell are you doing here?” to his wife. And then basically cuts her off to demand where the kids are. Why should she act so guilty about that in the first place?
I swear, as soon as the cameras stopped rolling, he took her out to the car and smacked the crap out of her.
Yes, I know commercials are make-believe. I seriously hate this one.
Do any of you watch OLN? I really get a kick out of a new one for Vegas (where the National Finals Rodeo is held.) Two cowboys dressed nicely but carrying ropes(forgive me if I forget who, but they’re calf ropers) are standing in line to get in a dance club. The hot girls in front of them get in, but the bouncer stops them and says something about a dress code.
Next thing you see is the cowboys with the girls draped over them, and it cuts to the bouncer tied up on the ground like a calf. What really gets me is that he’s still trying to bounce.
Vegas does ads like that every year at this time, but that one’s really good.
I like the new series of Toyota commercials, which seem to have a “If kids ruled the world” theme. In particular, I like the one that shows two boys with a scientist guy (Bob) at a crash test facility. Kind of like a commercial version of Jerome Bixby’s “It’s a Good Life” short story.
Boy: “Do the red one, Bob.”
Boy: “Cool!”
Boy: “Now do the gold one.”
Bob: “It’s called desert sand mica.”
Boy: “Whatever. Just crash it.”
Boy: “Yea!”
Boy: “Now do the eight-seater.”
Boy: “C’mon, Bob. Do another one.”
Boy: “Bingo!”
Boy: “Yea!”
Boy: “Do it again.”
Bob: “There are no more left.”
Boy: “What about your car?”
I like the new Verizon ad (I think it’s Verizon). It’s a spoof on the holidays and talks about how it will be the best Christmahanukwanzakah ever. Or something like that.
I saw this for the first time last night, while having supper. When it got to the part where he’s being chased around the bed by a girl in a maid’s uniform and wielding a fly swatter, I nearly choked to death on my food! What a great concept! Kinky fly sex involves fly swatters! I love it!
