The Future Must Not Belong To...

Based on President Obama’s 2012 speech to the United Nations, which of these are you most afraid that the future will belong to?

A tough choice, but I went for those corrupt few who steal a country’s resources.

That all sounds an awful lot like the present.

It sure does :frowning:

Plutocracy is more of a global problem that isn’t getting better.

Misogyny is getting better slowly. So is religious intolerance. Even if it isn’t, it is generally localized. Of the options listed in OP, the only global ones are misogyny and plutocracy.

plutocracy keeps getting worse and worse, and it is a global problem.

Went with "those corrupt few who steal… " as well. Not because I have anything against the filthy rich (which I do, but only coincidentally), but because I feel like they foment discord to get their victims to point fingers at each other. Sort of like if someone were to rob a house and left behind clues indicating several other members of the household did it/are to blame.

None of the above

Out of the list in the poll, “those corrupt few who steal a country’s resources”.

Not constrained to the poll I’d add fascists and theocrats, who overlap strongly with the above.

Yeah, fascists/racists/nationalists and theocrats are usually just the cultural arm of the plutocrats designed to win mass support (or mass acceptance) for plutocratic agendas.

:dubious:

Am I misunderstanding you, or are you in favor of bullying women, corrupt people stealing national resources, harassment of Copts, etc?

They’re pretty much the same people, just reacting to the circumstances presently at hand.

His target audience sounds like the Middle East. There seems to be a lack of mention of problems back home. It sounds like he only accidentally mentioned something applicable.

I also have to go with the corrupt few who steal. Women will not allow themselves to be bullied. The people killing the Coptic Christians will not take over the world. Slander against a prophet I interpret more as spreading lies about Islam. That’s worrying, but it’s not going to win. Israel and Palestine won’t take over the world. And I have faith that most of the world will not be led by dictators.

The corrupt people stealing though can really be in charge, whether behind the scenes or front and center. Too many people defend them, when they’d condemn all the rest. It’s just the more realistic scenario, and thus the thing most worth fearing.

And that fear is only worth something if we try to fight it.

Of those I went for the first but I would have rather it said “Those who target any person for reason of their beliefs or lack thereof”.

Pretty sure that Clothahump means that there are worse things than what the OP listed.

No vote from me, my choice of Republicans not listed.
