Even though there are several mixed feelings and beliefs on the current presidential situation, I’m wondering what politics will look like after the 2028 election and beyond?
Because at this point, nothing surprises me anymore, considering that America voted red this time around, I’m assuming it’ll just go back and forth between republican and democrat candidates, unless if another candidate from another party comes out of no where and shocks the world (green or libertarian, which is unlikely, even though I’m open to the idea after 8 interesting years of Trump and Biden)
IMO, the only changes I see happening include younger candidates, a future woman president, and more interesting rule/bill changes.
Finally, we will eventually have to deal with a Gen X, Millennial, and Gen Z president and VP, which is another topic for later…
I think there’s no reason to speculate on anything that far in the future. We are very definitely entering a whole new era where almost nothing we know of the past will be a useful guide to the future. Or, all the sound and fury will in fact signify nothing and it’ll be biz as usual in 2028.
As always, it depends on the state of the US economy, and any wars we happen to be involved in at the time. If the majority is happy, there’s really no reason to expect a change.
People tend to vote with their pocketbooks, so if the economy is cruising along, with wages up, interest rates reasonable, and inflation under control, and we aren’t in a prolonged foreign war, the incumbent party will likely remain in power, but as was said early, it’s too early to predict what will happen now. Come back in 2027 and we will be able to give you a much better answer!
It’s possible. People may look back in history and see the MAGA years and ask, what the fuck were we doing?!
Note that I’m saying “MAGA” in the past tense because regardless of what happens, Trump won’t be POTUS anymore. (This is an inarguable fact; I won’t say he will be out of power completely, but he can’t be POTUS unless somehow Republicans get a supermajority in 2026 to pass an amendment, and I say there is zero chance of that… That we can at least predict with confidence.)
I think I’ve brought up the Civil War before, but that was a time when Americans were literally killing each other, when two halves of the country actually went to war. You’d be forgiven for expecting that the United States was done for at that point. Yet over 150 years later, here we are and we are much bigger and more prosperous.
Things may actually be better in future generations despite the shitty slide we seem to be going down. You really can’t predict anything. Which to me is something of a comfort; things may actually improve eventually.
…As far as I’m concerned, I have no fucking idea about what might happen tomorrow, let alone 2028. My head hasn’t stopped pounding today, I rarely take the Xanax prescribed to me, I think I will this evening. Jesus Christ.
