The Games People Play - First MMP of 2008!

IM totally unbased on anything O, yes… if I’m writing I’ll write “The '70-s”

I think there are some far better qualified people around here to answer this question though!

Maybe you’re confusing "addictive’ and “cooties” …?..

:stuck_out_tongue:

Nah… first one’s mine, the other’s yours :stuck_out_tongue:

don’t be a hater!

Oops! :smack: Thanks.

I’m thinking of opening my Gender 101 writing class by writing on the board: Pornography is degrading to women and ask my students to write a paragraph in response to get discussion flowing. Too heady for the first day?

not at all - and I’ll wager the pro/con split will be along the gender lines.

The AP style book says to use the apostrophe and and “s” if plural, i.e., '70s. As noon said.

Say, rosie, is this like horseshoes and hand grenades…the closest one wins???

Just had my ass chewing on the state of my P&L.

Oh well

I was mortified to receive a disability check yesterday, so I called this morning and had an argument with them because they didn’t want me to send the check back! I won, and I’m sending the check back, although I suspect I’ll have to go another round or two with them. Apparently, vacation pay doesn’t count as income. Kaiser insisted I submit a claim in case I was out for more than 3 weeks, and since it’s been a month since I went out on disability, not a bad idea, because I’d be worried about money by now if I were still out. OTOH, I’m fine, I suffered no financial loss for being out (save 3 personal days and 5 vacation days, but isn’t that what they’re for?), and I would feel horribly guilty taking any money whatsoever, when there are people who need it.

I started on my sweater last night. The one thing that every pattern in the round starts with is “join, being careful not to twist”. So guess what I did? I stayed in denial for a 1/2 inch of ribbing before I had to admit that yes, it was twisted. I’ll start again this weekend, when I’m not quite so tired.

I put the dumpster out this morning for pickup. I haven’t heard from them, but I assume they’ll be by today. I can see parts of the living room floor again and the bedroom closet is almost completely empty. Yay! (The kind of neighbors I have, I’m sure the dumpster will be picked through, but I don’t care as long as they don’t scatter stuff all over the yard.)

yuppers

Eek! I haven’t entered the pool! If you can, please put me down for 1/13, 3 PM her time.

Work is busy today, and then for a few minutes we lost the internet! EEEEEEK! But it’s back now. Not that I have much time between calls.

Thanks, Pugs. That’s what I’d done, but then it suddenly started looking wrong. I hate it when that happens.

Why shouldn’t you deserve a disability check, Shadow? You’ve been off work because of a temporary disability. Vacation is for fun; disability time off work is not. Two very different animals.

Speaking of joining without twisting, what’s your favorite method of joining rounds? I’ve tried several and am not entirely satisfied with any yet. More input is needed.

I’m tired and cranky this afternoon. :frowning:

Ack, my back.

Finally finished my syllabus for my Gender Studies class. Praise the Lord.

I should clean the house and get some shopping done. Grrrrlumphgh.

I just feel uncomfortable about taking the money, because it’s state disability, and I already got paid for my time off. I feel weird taking money when I already got a full paycheck. I suppose I’ll consider it payment for losing 8 vacation days, but I’d rather have time than money. Anyway, I don’t think the guy I talked to at the EDD quite grasped everything I was saying. Perhaps it was the first time he’d ever talked to someone who *didn’t * want the money. He was certainly confused, but I definitely shouldn’t get disability for sick time or holiday pay.

The recommended method for joining in the round for Fair Isle is to take both yarn ends (assuming you used a long tail cast-on or similar) and knit them together for the first two stitches. That doesn’t leave a gap, but you have to remember to treat the double stitches as a single stitch when you come back around. My mistake was using a backwards loop cast-on, instead of a long tail. Some people knit the first couple of rounds flat, and then join after a few rows, sewing up the ends. If I end up with a gap, I usually go back and sew it up using the tail from the cast-on.

Roundboy decided that he didn’t have to tell me yesterday that he wasn’t coming in today. So I’m up to my hips in my alligators and up to my neck in his. So just a quick semi-driveby to see if tnc showed.

As of right now, Bob, the Doppler radar is clear for 300 miles. I have no idea where our storms went.
Gotta go. Have a nice weekend, y’all.

That was 10 AM when it happened. I know where the storms went since then… POOF!

Want me to go all ninja on Roundboy for you?

My kitchen was all clean, and then I made lunch. (N.O.L) If I stare at it, maybe it will clean itself.

We should pick up the Hideously Expensive Stroller tomorrow. I’ll let Mr. Lissar do it- he can carry heavy things. He needs pants, so we’re probably off to the Maul with Driving Husband tonight to look for some. And then I’m probably making dinner for both of them- I have psychic powers.

Anyone else having weird problems with gmail? If I try to log in, it lets me into a blank page and tells me my email’s being displayed. Which it isn’t.

Survived another week - yay! And I finally stuck the bulbs that my mom gave me into the ground. I hope I didn’t wait too long.

One of the main programs that I use at work got all wonky on me - again! I would import the data I needed, start to format it for the product I need to get out, then all of a sudden, all of the attributes on the data table would go blank. It happened several times, and I can’t for the life of me figure out what I’m doing to cause it. One of my coworkers said they’ve been having data base issues. So I put in a trouble call and quit. Sometimes it’s not worth banging your skull against that concrete wall.

Poor **FCD ** is going to be working late again today, and he’s got to bring home his computer to work this weekend. He says if people would quit interrupting him, he could get a lot done. Poor baby.

Meanwhile, we’ve got my sister’s anniversary party tomorrow and I haven’t gotten them a gift - I have absolutely no idea what to get them. I don’t even know if they’re expecting gifts. I suppose a card for dinner out would work. It’s a small step up from handing them a coupla greenbacks.

TGIF.

I need chocolate.
