The Games People Play - First MMP of 2008!

Away from the computer all day yesterday. Taking the Kid to school, going to the Blackhawks game.

But I’m here now.

But I’m running out now too.

Hi, all. I was just totally wiped out yesterday evening, for some unknown reason, so crawled in bed right after Jeopardy! and watched TV with my feet up all evening. It was very nice. Until I went to sleep, and then during the night developed a hideous sinus headache. So I stayed in bed cuddling with the cat for an extra hour this morning, hoping the headache would go away. It didn’t. :frowning: So I’m vertical and caffeinating, hoping that that will help my throbbing head. I make no warranties about how long this state of affairs will last. :frowning:

I think in the wee hours of Sunday morning would be an excellent time for TNC to make his appearance. Just sayin’. Kid, get your tuchus in gear and, as they say on TV, come on down!

Not much else going on here this weekend. Work is finally starting to pick up, so at least I’m not facing the prospect of another minuscule check; the one I’m getting Monday is the smallest I’ve gotten in probably two years. :frowning: Fortunately, we just paid off a huge pile of bills, so it won’t put us in dire straits like it might have a few months ago. I really hate getting minuscule checks, but if the work ain’t there, it just ain’t there. It’s very odd how the work ebbs and flows; the first two weeks of January were traditionally slow for many years, but the last few years it’s been much busier so I wasn’t anticipating a return to the old leaner times. Oh well, it’s been nice while it lasted.

Off to drink another cup of coffee and see if the headache will continue to subside.

I think my little 4 cup coffee pot is starting to flake out on me :frowning:

I am up and about to hit the shower and head out to run the 3 million messages I have to do that I didn’t get done last weekend as I was still under the influence of Teh Sick

Sorry db about the cancelled weekend - I fully sympathise

Good morning everyone. I’m up, but I’m not really awake. I stayed up too late last night. I would have slept some more, but my daughter needs to be somewhere in about three hours, so I need to get myself cleaned up. Additionally, there were the haircutting and cleaning house plans…

I have coffee brewing, but I"m not sure I can keep my eyes open until then.

Ugh, doggiebutler. That sucks.

I have a crick in my neck and a mild hangover to boot. Last night I had friends over for dinner, after which we drank wine and argued over fashion and hipsters and Lacan and secondary identification and morality in evolution … why yes, we are a bunch of humanities geeks, why do you ask?

Afterwards I went to join That Guy and Minister’s Lad and Victorian Heroine for a drink or three. I haven’t seen VH in awhile. It’s her birthday today; her and That Guy are having kind of a joint celebration tonight, since That Guy’s birthday was last Tuesday.

I just found out our next door neighbor, Bob, died last night. :frowning: He was elderly and in poor health, but still, :(.

{{{MamaTigs}}}
I’m back from my nap. I’m still tired.

(((MamaTigs)))

In Exciting Medical News, this time it worked, I’m starting to dilate, and we’ll do it again on MOnday. It was ouchy, but not really ouchy, more like, “Ooh, this is not very fun”.

In Other Exciting and Ridiculous Medical News, while I was eating cereal after the midwife left, oneof my back molars broke in half. I fished it out of my mouth and stared at it. It doesn’t hurt, we’ve left a message at the dentist’s- but I’m not sure if they can do anything about it. I’m almost 41 weeks pregnant with high blood pressure. Going in for dental surgery seems unlikely.

This is weird.

:dubious:  (that one is to indicate surprise) re the stripping of the membranes not hurty-hurting. Guess pain really IS subjective! (my OB was an old man, with huge hands, and no bedside manner).

I am back from foraging for food–no wonder men took over the world; women were too busy trying to track down more berries and shit. Grrrrr.

Not sure what to do with myself right now. I may waste time.

Sorry to hear about your neighbor, MamaTigs; hugs to you and his family too.

LiLi, thinking of you and TNC and hoping he’ll make his appearance soon! How strange about your molar–you’ll probably have to wait until after the birth to get it worked on, though. {{{{HUGS}}}}

Thanks for the tip about that Family Feud game, Rosie! I never noticed them before and that was fun!! I may have some odd ball answers, though.

Went out for a bit today, got some fresh air and -walked-, and visited the neighborhood Aldi’s. If you’ve never been there, it’s sort of like a warehouse grocery store, with very low prices (and you have to pay a quarter to get a cart, but you get the quarter back when you return it); they have some name brands, but mostly it’s brands I’ve never seen anywhere but there - I guess it’s their own Aldi brand maybe. Anyway, I used canned milk in my coffee, but the cans of evaporated (not condensed!) milk at my Safeway are over 1 a can (unless they're on sale), and they're only .69/can at Aldi so that is what I stocked up on today. And I also showed great restraint from buying a lot of other stuff, but that’s mostly because those darned cans of milk are so heavy by themselves! I also went back to a little Hispanic bakery just down the street and this time I got a huge elephant ear (I think the real name is palmiere) for just $.60! I would have gone grocery shopping, but I was tired by then (sclepping around the Aldis did me in … LOL), so will do that tomorrow morning.

Ah, my midwife is a smallish, slender (about my height, which is short) woman, with tiny hands, and a total willingness to pause or stop whenever, who kept asking me if I was okay, and who stopped when I said I wanted her to. She said she learned with an OB who was a huge guy, and that she was grateful for her tiny fingers, which mean she can get into small spaces.

She was very gentle. It hurt, but not more than bad cramps. I can take that.

Sorry about your tooth, LiLi. I’m virtually 100% sure no dentist will do anything – except maybe smooth off a rough edge – until after TNC arrives. In fact, getting anyone to do anything at this point, except maybe rush you to the birthing center/hospital (whichever you’re using), is pretty unlikely.

Aldi’s, eh, Herbs? I didn’t know they were in this area. I’ve wondered about them ever since I saw the Duggar family (of TV infamy – the ones with a zillion kids who are über-fundies and live on their own cultlike compound in Arkansas) going to Aldi’s to buy their canned veggies and disposable diapers. :smack: Anyway, I shall have to check it out one of these years. And evaporated milk for coffee? That’s a good idea, actually; I use regular 2%, but prefer cream, so that might be a good substitute. We have a discount warehouse grocery near us – can’t think of the name of it, but it’s the same kind of place – that probably has it cheaper than the regular stores. I’ll have to try it out.

My headache is not subsiding all that much, unfortunately. And although Papa Tigs and the Idiots set out for the beach, he forgot the new 2008 windshield sticker for the car to get into the park ($25 or $30 a year vs. $5 a trip – well worth it!), so they just went to the schoolyard and ran a while. It’s too bad he forgot the sticker, it’s a perfect beach-going day today; it’s up to 50°, with bright sun and no breeze. Maybe it’ll still be warm tomorrow, too. The Idiots always love a good swim.

We weren’t close with our next-door-neighbor, but we were always neighborly. I’ll check with his wife in the next day or two to see if there’s anything we can do to help; I hate to intrude immediately. He was a nice old guy, though.

I’m with ya on that, Rigs. I’m a little tired, but not too bad. I got to sleep in until 6:00 am! Woo-hoo! This morning I have done two loads of clothes, made breakfast, put the dishes in the dishwasher, vacuumed the living room, took the dogs to the dog park, and washed two of three dogs. Poor Blaze never gets a bath! He has really long hair, and he won’t cooperate. He lays down! So I only bathe him about three or four times a year. Lucy about once a month and Ernie gets it about once a week. He’s little and I can bathe him in the kitchen sink.

Last night Mr Rebo calls and tells me to get tickets online to see Tommy Chong for tonight, at the Improv. Sounds like fun, dinner and a comedian. Saturday night date! It seems I screwed up and got tickets for tomorrow night. Non refundable. So we’re going out tomorrow night! I’m a big dummy and can’t read. Oh well.

Have I whined to y’all about my stupid sprained ankle? (Everybody else is sick of me talking about it.) I hurt it the Sunday before Christmas, and it just won’t heal. I pulled a tendon on the top of my ankle. It hurts! I have a doctor appointment next Friday anyway, so I’ll see what he says about it. Nothing, probably.

I think I need a nap.

Naps are good.

I forgot to mention, Minister’s Lad groped me under the table last night. That kid. Whenever he gets drunk, he can’t keep his hands off me. The funny thing is that a friend of his and That Guy was visiting a few weeks ago, and HE groped me as well upon getting drunk (and I barely know him). What is it with guys and alcohol and groping? It’s not disturbing or anything, just mildly amusing/baffling/annoying.

(By “grope” I don’t mean anything grossly inappropriate, like grabbing my boobs or something. More like squeezing my knee under the table, or running a hand down my back. It’s not really groping, but it sounds funny if I say “he kept on touching me.” :dubious:)

I have teh sick! Actually it’s teh cold but still, ICK! Thus I have been goin’ to work and comin’ home and dopin’ (HEH!) myself up and sleepin’. Matter of fact I just woke up from a nap. Soon I shall redope myself and go back to sleepy land.

rebo, ouch! When my mother sprained her ankle, the doctor told her she’d have been better off if she’d broken it instead.

I’m sorry about your neighbor, MamaTigs.

Doggio, that sucks.

TNC, you get yourself out here, young man! We’re tired of waiting for you.

Li-li, my maternal grandmother lost a tooth with each pregnancy.

I went to my hazardous household waste drop off appointment this morning. I was quite impressed by how orderly it was. They block off the street, have multiple checkpoints, and everything moves very smoothly. It only took about 5 minutes total, including waiting in line. They must have had about 50 people in hazmat suits unloading cars. The stench from all the chemicals was awful.

Then I dropped off the laundry and exchanged a couple of skeins of yarn for the sweater. I kept the same colors, just different hues. I’m finished with the ribbing, so it’s time to start the colorwork.

I’d like to go back to sleepy land. I’m waiting on my daughter to finish getting ready to go so I can drop her off at Red Robin to meet her friends.

After that, I’ll come and tidy up the house. After that, well, mayhaps my soon will be awake and I can take him to get his ears lowered. That kid would sleep 24/7 if we let him.

I’m all husky sounding right now. I’m wondering if my voice will be going next. This crap just keeeeeeps on hangin’ on.

I’m sorry to hear about your neighbor, Mama Tigs.

Something I keep forgetting to mention:

MESSAGE FOR SNOWBUNNY (since you’re at work today and hopefully will have a chance to pop in and read this): That Amazon shipment for you did arrive here. I’ll get it sent off to you next week. I was going to go to to the post office this morning, but my head hurt so much I said forget it; you can wait an extra day or two!

Don’t you guys love the way snowbunny and I use the MMP as an online message service?

I have an Amazon shipment that should be coming in soon. I hope it’s Monday, at the latest.

Mr. Lissar is putting together the stroller behind me. It’s… very snazzy. He’s keeping up a good stream of cursing and complaining, although it’s not going badly.
Really, Blue? That’s weird.

:goes back to lying down on the couch:
