The gay community continues to amaze me

There’s no such linguistic group, either. I don’t think anyone’s used the term “Aryan” for the Indo-European language group for several decades. I can’t find it in any of my linguistics textbooks, except preceded by the word “formerly”.

[/nitpick]

Well, since this bugger is so sbviously fucked up, I thought I would post an antidote. The story ran in todays Baltimore Sun, and it was nice to see gay men portrayed in such a positive light, and gives one an interesting perspective on how things were a few decades ago.

Hey, Doobie, was he from the Liertarian National Socialist Green Party? Those guys are nucking futs indeed.

Oh… awlright. :frowning:

(but only because you said so, Esprix)

-who has never misspelled Esprix

A Gay Racist?

That’s just too bizarre.

I have a coupla friends that will just die laughing at this…

Eesh!

Sorry you had to face that creepo, Esprix!

Ok, since we’re on the subject, there are Jewish skinheads, and Hispanic, Black and Indian skinheads.

ya, I know. Talk about stupid, eh?

Of course, not all skinheads are racists. There’s a fabulous group of people in Montreal called SHARP - Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice.

Esprix, you think that’s weird? Ho about the upcoming Grammy duet bewtween Elton John and Eminem? That’s enough cognitive dissonence to make my ears bleed. To say nothing of what their MUSIC does.

Also, as I beleive LunaSea was pointing out, not all skinheads are racists. There was an article in the New Yorker, maybe two years ago, detailing an escalating gang war between rival skinhead gangs in the California central valley, one of them white supremacists, the other mixed race.

Alright, I’ll bite - what are the specific differences between skinheads, Aryans, racists, supremecists, and whatever other group is often lumped, correctly or incorrectly, into this catch-all group? I’ve always known not all skinheads were racists, but I never really knew how to spot one from the other.

And keep in mind this guy is not only a racist and a supremecist, but AIDS-phobic and homophobic (in his own unique way) as well. Just what the community needs to be more well-rounded… :frowning:

Esprix

Well since you asked nicely. Here it is.

A Skinhead is exactly that. Someone with a shaved, or very closely cropped hair style. They come in all shapes and sizes. You have political and non political skinheads, racist and anti racists, gay and homophobic skinheads. They tend to be easily identified by their dress. I can usually tell ex skinheads too, just by lookin’ at them

Aryans? Well, as other’s have said there aren’t really Aryans. But, if someone refers to themself as an Aryan, or you call someone “fucking Aryan”. You’re probably referring to them belonging or agreeing with a group like the Aryan Brotherhood. In other words, they’re a racist. Most are homophobic, but not all.

Racist. You know that one.

Supremecist, a more extreme racist. One who believes in the supremicy of their own particular group.

You can also throw mods into the mix. Many mods are closely allied with skinheads, they tend to listen to poppier music, ride scooters, dress snazily, but I’ve known quite a few racist ones too.

Answer your question?

Does anyone else find it ironic that NAP became annoyed at Esprix because Esprix, although of the same race as NAP, does not share NAP’s political beliefs, while Esprix became annoyed at NAP because NAP, although of the same orientation as Esprix, does not share Esprix’s political beliefs? Once person expects all whites to think the same, while the other expects all homosexuals to think the same.

Not at all. Esprix, being part of a persecuted minority, expected other people in that minoirty to be more sensitive to others. Completely different than what the idiot expected and wanted.

You can find differences between what the two wanted, and I certainly won’t dispute that there are significant differences. But saying that there are differences does not eliminate the similarities. I never said that what they wanted were the same, only that they were similar.

It’s The Semantics Game, with your host, The Ryan!

Nowhere did I say I expected him to share the same views as I did (i.e, demanded that he do so), but as two people ostensibly treated equally poorly in today’s society, it just surprised me that he would hold such an attitude. (And I’m sure you’ll go into great excrutiating detail that the fact that I was surprised really does mean I “expected” something from him, so please feel free to find the word I’m really looking for, as it’s late and I’m tired and can’t think of a more accurate word at the moment. Pre-conceived notion? Assumption? Surely figuring a gay man not to be vehemently and proudly antagonistic and caustic towards PWA’s isn’t a huge leap, which is why it surprised me.)

And, further, it wasn’t even so much that he was gay - the whole racist thing got me first. I’ve never met a proudly AIDS-phobic supremecist before, gay, straight or otherwise. Kinda shook me, that’s all. Sometimes I forget that people exist who are capable of such hatred. It was like my snooze alarm went off on my wake-up call or something.

From the alt.skins faq

Skinheads started out as a mixed group, the British kids emulating the Jamaican Rudies. I find neo-nazis using the skinhead indentity highly ironic.

Yes, I have known Black, Hispanic and Jewish skinheads. My husband is part Native American, and a trad skin.
Sorry for the hijack, Esprix, Just trying to fight a little ignorance

See, that’s the nice thing about having a 3000++ post count. You can accuse the moderators here of such things, and no one cares …
[sub]Eh, it’s too early in the morning to be successfully funny.[/sub]

It’s gross, sure, but hardly surprising. It always makes my stomache turn when I hear my black friends making cracks about gays.

Apparently some people just can’t relate to other humans or see the roots of the hatred they face themselves.

Hint: “it’s the all-consuming ignorance, folks!”

Esprix, there has always been a strain of homosexual eroticism associated with fascism. Ernst Roehm, head of the National Socialist’s Party paramilitary arm, the SA, was a homosexual, as were many rank and file members of the SA until Hitler had them killed during the Night of the Long Knives in 1934.

George Lincoln Rockwell, head of the American Nazi Party until his death in 1968, was homosexual, as were many members of the party.

Check out your local leather and levis bar this weekend and see how many leathermen are wearing Naziesque peaked caps and straps. Falcon Films has made several fascist-themed porn films, including “The Abduction” and its sequels.

My feeling about Nazi skinheads is that a lot of them are really rough trade sublimating their samesex urges through violence and male bonding that cames within a razor’s edge of being overtly sexual. Shirtless muscle boys tattooing each other and dancing together–could they be gayer? Of course, they’d kick your ass for suggesting it, but isn’t that always the way with people frightened of their true natures?

Back in my day ::waves cane around:: I used to hang out with some SHARP skins, including white, black, Puerto Rican kids. You used to be able to tell a good bit about skinheads from the color of the laces in their boots. Every color had some meaning, and I don’t remember most of them. The one that I do remember is that white laces = white supremacist. Any of you whippersnappers know whether that is still the case?
