The Geefle, the Gonk, and the nectarines

Recently I was reading about nectarines being not a specific fruit but only an unfurry cultivar of peach. It brought back a deep memory of Sesame Street. I don’t think this skit quite traumatized me, but I did think it was kind of creepy.

I had no idea at the time (single digit age) a “nectarine” was, I thought maybe it was some alien fruit made up for the skit. (I don’t remember if I’ve ever eaten one in the 40+ years since, but it definitely isn’t a word that I see or hear often at all.)

I loved it. It’s definitely weird though.

What’s weirder, to me, is having nectarines be a rare occurrence in life. I eat them all the time.

Amazing that I knew exactly what Sesame Street skit you meant when I saw the thread title. Probably haven’t seen it since I was a kid, but it stuck with me all this time.

There’s an old quip that in Hell, there are huge banquet tables laid out with all sorts of delicious food, but nobody can eat it because the forks are all four feet long, so nobody can get it into their mouths. And in Heaven, there are the same banquet tables, with the same food, and the same forks, but the people feed each other across the table.

The Gonk has his own song:
