There is an element of condescension in some of the male acceptance of the double standard. Its a very “aww, isn’t that cute. Well, we’ll let them feel like they won that one. It’ll be good for their confidence”
Of course life isn’t fair. Ask any black man trying to get a job or Asian kid trying to get into college or white woman trying to get a promotion into a managerial position. But white men have a burden to bear as well. If you are a white man, you are left with the impression that the game of life was your to lose and somehow you lost.
As the source of an argument. A very persuasive one, in this case, based on some essential but little-known facts cited therein, and sourced therein, and quoted in my post.
I think this mostly has to do with the iconoclastic nature of humor. It is generally more funny for the underdog to overcome the person in power that the other way around. A peasant showing his superiority over a king is high humor. A king showing his superiority over a peasant is at best boring and at worst bullying. Is it entirely fair to men that humor tends to be at our expense? No. But its just the price we have to pay for being in an otherwise dominant position.
There’s a bit of that, along with a tendency (in American humor, anyway) for the starring role to be a clown or buffoon. Compare a show like Home Improvement with I Love Lucy; the lead character always getting into ridiculous situation and surrounded by reasonable, long-suffering friends and family. So, is Lucy Ricardo a positive or negative for women? As a character she’s a terrible role model, but Lucille Ball was also the star and driving force behind the show. I think you can cherry pick the evidence for either side of the debate.
Majority of stuff on the internet is noise generated by the “mainstream media”, click-bait, and porn. So I’m not sure why you think people are more likely to get ‘good’ information by Googling. Some will. Most won’t or don’t know how to tell the difference between fact and someone’s blogged opinion.
No, we agree these are happening. The issues is not that we are victims of a biased media. The issue is that for every claim of discrimination against men, you can find 10 that women have to put up with.
No one is claiming men don’t face - any - discrimination.
