Again, the statements I object to are:

*neither Glenn Beck nor Sarah Palin think there’s anything wrong with making a paycheck off of the deaths of 2977 American deaths.

His speaking fee. I am sure he gets a piece of every ticket sold though.*

If our standard is:

I don’t know and neither do you.

Then none of these statements should be made. Agreed?

Again, I did not make any of those statements but I agree that they can be held to the ‘I don’t know, neither do you’ standard. “Should” they be made? Sure, why not given this forum - it’s a message board after all. People are free to post opinions.

You are confusing my comment of your opinion with me saying you didn’t have right to post it. I didn’t say you were wrong for posting your opinion.

Some opinions are more easily proven true than others… like say the common definition of “fundraiser” vs what’s going on (or not) in Sarah Palin’s head. You have commented on both of these up thread. We’re having a discourse, what’s the problem?

Nitpick: The number 2,977 is correct. But they weren’t all Americans.

No problem at all.

I’m objecting to a set of factually disprovable statements. I agree that “fundraiser,” is a bit more nebulous, and I’ve withdrawn from that one. But while anyone is free to post their opinion that Beck got a paycheck from this event, I’m equally free to point out the flaws in that statement.

Right?

So we’re all doing what we’re free to do.

Only some of us are insulted for doing it, though.

I do think it is more or less equivalent to Al Gore making money on Climate Change speaking engagements. I see nothing particularly wrong with either. Whats irrational is trying to claim that Beck’s making a profit off of a political stand one way or another is inherently wrong. Don’t get me wrong, Beck’s a douche bag, and politicizing Climate Change with someone like AL Gore may not have been good for the cause ultimately. But if we are going to defend one, I don’t see how we can attack the other.

I don’t see the equivalence at all and I have no problem with Beck making a buck (to wit, I wouldn’t call Beck’s similar stunt a few weeks back in Washington ghoulish). My beef all along is this event which was designed to make money for Mr. beck and Mrs. Palin (that Beck gave any or all of that money to charity is irrelevant) was scheduled to commemorate the murder of 3000 Americans. That is what I think is loathsome.
