The Good Place Season 4 Epis 1-7: Not currently available

I’ve looked, believe me. On all legal platforms-- these 7 episodes are just not available. On NBC.com it says “Not currently available”. If you want to watch episodes 8-13, you can. Please don’t tell me it is available on NBC.com-- no. Not on Netflix, not on Hulu not on Roku not on the NBC app for your phone. They are just. . . not currently available. My question is: Why? What is the marketing, business model or money-type, contractual reason for this? Is this typical for television series? Will they ever be released? What the fork, man?

The entire season 4 is still available here in Panama, so it’s not a global thing. It could be just the US (although I have no idea why). (Shows that are available on Netflix here are often not available in the US, and vice versa. And certain shows may be available in Canada or Europe that are not available here.)

NBC only includes the last four episodes. It usually is released to Netflix by the end of the summer.

This is SOP for most network shows. Indeed, the fact that NBC kept all episodes up for the first three seasons is unusual. I assume the reason is to create a market for the shows; if people can see everything online, it reduces the value of DVDs and streaming.

NBC is launching its own streaming service, Peacock, on July 15. They have already done previews on some platforms, and will be having different tiers of service that will make different things available. So it’s possible that they have pulled some episodes in anticipation that they will part of the Peacock launch.
