I adore Grape Nuts. Using Soya Milk, since a vegan.
No more adding sugar than I would to parritch.
The only annoyance is that — typical of Britain — is that as I discovered only a few months ago by scanning the backgrounds of some old sitcoms, over here the standard size is less than the standard size in America, being just 12 oz here. And since it is a fairly rare premium cereal, it costs £2.25 for that. So they hit one twice.
Normal cereals cost around £1.80, and one can get some supermarket cornflakes ( grown in France, so not genetically modified ) for 31p for 16 oz. On the other hand cornflakes are not divine grape nuts, Cereal of the Gods.
Can you all please stop forgetting the hyphen in grape-nuts? It’s a very important part of how they get away with the product not containing any nuts or grapes!
Big fan here, but I remember reading an article recently that stated that Grape-Nuts aren’t necessarily as “healthy” as we think they are. They’re pretty healthy, but not to the extent that most people think they are - like with fiber, for instance.
Right now I have a big bowl of peach yogurt in the freezer with Grape-Nuts mixed in. After about 20 minutes, I pull it out, and I have this crunchy-icy concoction that just tastes AWESOME.
I like Grape-Nuts. I have a cup every day. I pour skim milk over it and let it soak for about 4 minutes in the freezer because I like it very cold.
I’m surprised some need to put sugar on it. It seems pretty sweet by itself, almost cloying in a way. I’ve tried the store brand equivalents and they have none of this sweetness. However, I tried the suggestion on the box of warming it up in the microwave. Weirdly, the sweetness was totally gone. It must be some perceptual oddity, because just warming it up isn’t going to degrade any sugar present.
