The Graveyard of Television Crib-Death

There’s one I recall where the main characters were state lottery officials distributing money to the winners, can’t recall the title.

(at the risk of being whooshed…) Lottery!, perhaps? Now that you mention it, I remember watching that!

“Lottery!”, of course. I vaguely recall one episode where I think the winner was a kindly old grocery store owner who couldn’t make ends meet because he kept giving food at deep discounts to struggling people in his town.

Lottery - Wikipedia!

Hm. I searched Wikipedia for “Lottery (TV show)” but came up dry. Forgot about imdb.

Well, I’m glad that one didn’t get a second season. But, I’m a soapboxer about lotteries.

Wow, that reminds me of another show from about that same era. Let me see how much I can remember about it.

Major (American) network, mid '70s to early '80s, drama. Not an anthology, but few recurring characters. It was about a lottery or sweepstakes of some sort, and the drawing took place in the middle of each episode. Each ep would start by showing the lives of three people (couples, families, whatever) who would become finalists in the drawing. Then the drawing was held (in a theater); I think there were ten finalists, but you knew the winner would be one of the three we’d been introduced to. And then the second half of the episode would be the fallout of either winning or losing the money.

About the only reason for remembering this show at all was because the theater scenes were shot at an old, neighborhood movie theater near where I grew up. It was a gorgeous building, but it’s been closed up for decades.

Hold on, I think I found it. weepstake. 9 episodes in 1979. And there ain’t much info on the web about it.

Holy cow! The episode they took that clip from was directed by Richard Donner! THAT Richard Donner! Talk about paying dues

ABC’s “Cavemen,” the sitcom version of the Geico cavemen commercials.

It was widely ridiculed at the time and was finished off by the writers’ strike, but it was a well written show with an excellent cast including Julie White and Nick Kroll.

13 episodes were made and not all of them were aired in 2007.

1991 re-imaging of “Dark Shadows”

1963 “Judy Garland Variety Show”

1963 “East Side/West Side” with George C Scott

I mentioned Shadow Chasers a couple pages back but I am glad to know I am not the only one who remembers it.

Uh, Wile E, I have a confession to make: I don’t know “Shadow Chasers.” On IMdB, when you call up a movie or TV show, half-way down the page there sometimes is a “If you like this… you’ll like that” section. That’s where I found SC.

Another confession: I don’t believe you’re a Super Genius, either.
