The Graveyard of Television Crib-Death

This thread is about TV shows that, for whatever reason, lasted only one season or less.

I’ll start with Profit. So wonderfully creepy and disturbing! I guess that’s why it was canceled. :frowning:

I quite liked Vegas two years ago. I was surprised it didn’t do better in the ratings.

Same goes for Michael Mann’s Private Eye back in the '80s.

There was this little thing Joss Whedon threw together called Firefly. It had promise.

Too soon. Sob.

My So Called Life. I think it’s the main reason I watch Homeland.

I wouldn’t have minded more Eerie, Indiana either.

Unfortunately, I found that Profit didn’t hold up on recent viewing. It was plodding, pre-X-files weird, which means it was slightly weirder than Murder, She Wrote.

Two Judd Apatow series; Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared. Also, Kings, a sort-of modern day Biblical story.

A show in the '70s called “Khan!” (a Quinn Martin production) starred Keigh Deigh. 4 episodes aired.

Athough Huff was on for two seasons on Showtime, it was only 26 episodes. It was probably cancelled because I was the only one who watched it.

OMG!!! Somebody else actually remembers this series!!!

Barely! Keigh Deigh did not put his name in the credits. He was also on MAS*H once or twice, but I can’t find his listing.

Before Misfits and Heroes, there was Misfits of Science. It was an action-comedy about a group of oddballs with paranormal abilities. It only lasted a season, but I watched every episode because of Courtney Cox.

Darn, she’s purty.

It’s Khigh Dhiegh.

My nomination:My World and Welcome to It, a low-key, charming comedy based on the works of James Thurber.

Back about 2006-ish, there was a show on one season called Surface, about a kid that found a sea serpent egg and hatched it. I loved that show.

The first season ended with a cliff-hanger… AND NEVER CAME BACK.

Bearcats!” 13 episodes, plus pilot movie. A must-see.

Jonny Quest” 26 episodes. I have the DVD package and will defend it with my life.

Where’s Huddles?” 10 episodes. Just mentioning it in passing.
I could do this all night. From memory. God, that’s depressing.

Small wonder I couldn’t find his name. Thanks.

Really good show. Bess was cute.

Alien Nation - a superb adaptation of the 1988 movie. It ended on a cliffhanger, which did get resolved in a TV movie. A few other movies followed.

Police Squad anyone?

Boy, is my face red–Lisa Gerritsen, who played the daughter, also played the daughter (Bess) on “Phyllis” with Cloris Leachman.

It was more than sort-of, it was exactly David and Goliath and it was really cool.

Anyone remember Push, Nevada? It was a serialized mystery involving an IRS investigator and shenanigans in the desert. I really enjoyed it but it disappeared after half a season.

One of my all-time favorites, Nowhere Man, was a kind of less insane version of The Prisoner and a classic of the X-Files era conspiracy show. It ended on a cliffhanger after one season. :frowning:

Somewhat similar was a science fiction show called John Doe about a guy who wakes up one day and knows everything, except who he is. That also ended on a an unresolved cliffhanger. :frowning:
