I’m with LVBoPeep. I was totally rooting for Matty to win, and was thrilled when he did. According to the judges, the big differentiator was the taste of the cakes, and since none of us got to taste them, I don’t see how we can claim to know better. Anyway, there’s no monetary prize, and being the loser who was robbed will probably give Josh enough publicity to have a career in celebrity baking if that’s what he wants.
Josh had high levels of proficiency throughout the season, but was also extremely conservative in his baking, oozing a pathologically boring self-satisfaction. So he was ‘robbed’ in the final. Good!
I guess I was an outlier in that I was rooting for Josh and his deceased grandmother. But I thought his showstopper looked boring and not especially appetizing. And the judges said it didn’t taste as good as Matty’s.
I just watched with a friend, and we discussed whether it would be Matty or Josh before the reveal. We weren’t sure, and thought there was a case for either. So no, I don’t think anyone was robbed.
And that’s the thing. Plenty of the people who have made the final - winners or not - have been able to monetize/further their public baking careers based on the publicity they’ve received. So I think Josh will be fine if he wants any further attention (or cash) based on his baking efforts. Just making it as far as he did on the show is enough.
I thought Matty deserved the win, since his cake apparently tasted better.
Bit disappointed that the other guy, whose name escapes me, was so disappointing, as I’d thought he should have gone the previous week instead of Trish. But so it goes.
