The great British Columbia lobster tragedy...

Okay I may only be able to get help from Canadian SD’s, but I’ll give it a try.

A guy on my ball team told me a story about how Fisheries Canada tried to transplant Atlantic lobsters to the Pacific ocean. Apparantly they did all the researh and environmental impact studies, yadda yadda yadda. So they deemed it a good idea, they then rounded up a few thousand lobsters to transplant and put them on a plane.

For the flight accross the country, they put elastic bands around their claws. But when they let them go in the Pacific they forgot to cut the elastics on the claws and they pretty much all died!

Now a guy in my department had heard the same story as well, but neither of them could put a date on the event. Is this a Canadian urban legend, or is there some truth to it?
